Teaching & Learning

It is almost impossible to believe that we are nearly halfway through our final term of 2023! Things are certainly not slowing down yet; with our first-ever Year 12 exams in full swing, final assessments occurring in Years 7-10 and exams on the horizon for Years 9-11. Thankfully, these are all balanced against some exciting excursion opportunities which will allow students to remain engaged until the end of the school year.

All of the experiences above are important in preparing students for what is to come as they move through Secondary school. Even if students end up deviating away from an academic pathway, the skills learnt in preparing for formal assessments are valuable life skills and can help give students a real sense of purpose.

As parents or guardians, you are vital in the success of your child and there are many ways you can encourage them to continue to learn, persevere and grow from now until the end of the year.

  • Hold high expectations around attendance for your child, no matter the year level. We understand that this is a busy time of year for families but every day off impacts a student's ability to develop routines and consistency around their learning.
  • Show an interest in their upcoming assessments or exams, without placing too much pressure on them. For our Year 9 students, this is the first exam they will complete and it is as much about the experience as it is about their result.
  • Read all communications from classroom teachers on Compass- particularly around deadlines and key dates, as well as behavioural expectations. All of these things need to work together for students to experience success.
  • Celebrate every small win with your child. This is where we see learning stamina become an issue for many students, as they run out of steam towards the end of the year. Please make a big deal out of things your family values; whether this is House Points, academic achievements or social 'wins' in the yard.

Kind regards,
