September 1: A celebration of God’s decision to create

On Sunday 1 September the Catholic Church acknowledged the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

This idea originally came from the Easter Church as a day to commemorate the creation of the world. It is a special day to celebrate God's wonderful creation and a time for us to reflect on how we have been entrusted as stewards of the great gift of creation.

Make some time during the month of September to spend time as a family in your own garden, local gardens, the Dandenong Ranges, nearby beaches or pathways along the Yarra. Use your five senses to really appreciate the wonders of creation. Share with each other what you can see, smell, hear, feel and taste, if appropriate. The upcoming school holidays is the perfect opportunity to spend time together as a family to celebrate God's creation.

Pope Francis' Prayer Intentions for September

For the cry of the Earth

We pray that each one of us will hear and take to heart the cry of the Earth and of victims of natural disasters and climactic change, and that all will undertake to personally care for the world in which we live.

Amen
