From the Year 4 Classroom
Welcome back to a busy yet fun filled Term 4! We hope you had a relaxing break and are ready for all the JOY Term 4 brings! Please keep a close eye on all school communication platforms this term as there is a lot on and many events taking place throughout the term. This will be a local excursion for Year 4 this term. More details and a date to come.
Reading:
In Reading, we are exploring the Narrative non-fiction text called ‘Waves’ written by Donna Rawlins. This text is an anthology. An anthology is a series of short pieces that are connected by a similar theme or topic.
Writing:
In Writing, we will plan and compose a narrative text.
Numeracy:
In Numeracy our focus over the next few weeks will be:
- Geometric Reasoning- Comparing angles and classifying them as equal to, greater than or less than a right angle.
- Fractions and Decimals – quarters, halves, thirds and representing these on a number line. Making connections between fractions and decimal notation.
- 2D and 3D Shape- Explain and compare the geometric properties of two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects, as well as compare the areas of regular and irregular shapes by informal means.
In Religion we are learning about Creation. Through his unit of work the students will gain a deeper understanding of how we can come to know God through our appreciation of nature and recognise God’s divine presence in the wonder and work of creation. We will look at ways to care for and to conserve our world.
Our new Inquiry unit for this term is called “Ice, ice baby.” This term we will be exploring the globe and looking at the different continents with a specific focus on the Arctic. They will learn about how icebergs form, both on land and in the ocean. We will also explore the impact of climate change on these icebergs and why they are melting.
