Welcome back to Term Four. The students have made an excellent start to the term and we are ready for our busiest term of the year.
After School Care: After school care has started with a few students attending most days. We have now had five enrolments. This has been a big investment by our archdiocese in our school, so it is really important for the future of the school that we support this service. If you would like to come and visit, please come any time from 2pm and the staff would be happy to talk to you.
Doveton Show It was wonderful to see our students perform at the Doveton Show. There was also an art display, which was great to put our students up in lights. We were the only school to exhibit and perform, which is testament to our families, our staff, especially Mrs LG, Mrs Drossaert and Mrs Cheyne who gave up their weekend, and our families who came to support their children. I am so proud of you all!
Travelling Staff Mrs Feddersen and Mrs Moran are enjoying the challenge of the Camino. For those who don’t know, this is a religious pilgrimage in Spain, following in the footsteps of St James. We look forward to their return. We have been fortunate to have a few staff from other MACS schools who are all great teachers, and their feedback is always how calm this school is.
Prep Enrolments We have 14 Prep enrolments for next year at this stage, with three more tours booked. At this stage last year we had 6, and we know at this school, there is always a rush at the end. This is great news and we look forward to our school continuing to grow.
Award Nomination: Our school has been nominated for a Monash Health award for promoting healthy living and Inclusion. This has been for the work of the Breakfast Club and the Vegetable Garden. The vegetable garden, led by our Family and Community Engagement Leader Glenis is really starting to shine! Come in and have a look.
New Zealand Trip I was fortunate to meet with over 900 Principals and hear some great speakers in Christchurch in the last week of Term Three. The overall theme was that most schools are stretched to the limit. However, we never want to look negatively, and always positively, and there were a couple takeaways from some New Zealand schools in particular I want to investigate further. One clear insight is the amount of support many families are gaining in Australia through NDIS. There are some great early interventions for young children. The first step would be talking to either myself, Mrs Drossaert, your child’s teacher or your GP if you had any concerns for your child. Support may be available and early intervention is critical.
Dates There are many events coming up, therefore I ask that you keep attuned to the newsletter or the signboards at the front gate to keep up to date. Grandparents day and Special Person’s Morning is the first big whole school event on Thursday 31st of October, 9.00am to 10.00am.
Parish We thank the Parish for the closer working relationship we are establishing. On that end, we are in the final stages of getting a digital sign for Power Road which will help communicate messages and advertise the school.
Pope Francis
On recent travels Pope Francis spoke about Faith extensively saying that "Faith frees us from the horror of having to admit that everything ends here, that there is no redemption for the suffering and injustice that reign sovereign on earth." Faith gives hope, and in these turbulent times, it is important for us as adults to find and provide hope for our children. It is easier to say than to do, however, there have been and always will be turmoil in the world, yet there is always beauty. As adults, now more than ever, we must lead our students to the joy that is around us everyday.
Parent Advisory Board
Tonight, we have our most attendees at our Parent Advisory Board, which is a wonderful testament to our growing engagement. We are very keen for more of our families to be involved in your school.
