STEM Term 4
Welcome back! This term, we are continuing to learn about Digital Technologies! Students have started to learn about algorithms and will continue to create algorithms using a range of hardware and software!
Prep:
Students have been learning about algorithms. Computers cannot think for themselves, they need instructions to follow, called an algorithm! Students will be following instructions to create their own algorithms. Students will test and explore a range of block code and discuss their function.
Grade 1-2:
Students in Grade 1 and 2 have also been learning about algorithms! They will follow instructions to create an algorithm and create their own sequences in small groups. Students will identify 'bugs' in programs and discuss steps needed to fix them. Students will test a range of block code and talk about the function of each block. They will create a successful algorithm that tells a story!
Grade 3-4:
This term, students are learning about algorithms and have used programs such as Scratch and Sphero Edu to create their own programs. Students will be learning about variables and looping and will include these in their sequences. Variables are another word for decisions, when we include variables in an algorithm, we tell a robot or computer to make a decision based on conditions. Looping involves repeating sections of code to be more efficient. Students will create a range of games that include variables and looping - such as rock, paper, scissors!
Grade 5-6:
Last term, students learnt about the importance of considering user interface design when using a range of websites. This term, students are making mock websites of our solar system with the focus to ensure their designs are accessible for all. After this, students will choose a skill they wish to develop in STEM and will create a project to develop this skill.
