Welcome to our newsletter for this fortnight. I hope our families enjoyed the beautiful weather across the long weekend, as well as being able to re-charge the batteries as we enter the final few weeks of a busy Term 1.
Earlier this week, families received School Council ballot papers. In previous years we have provided candidate statements alongside the ballots, but we were unable to do so this year. The Department provides guidelines on what can be included in candidate statements, including length and content. We have been working with the candidates to get their statements into an appropriate form and unfortunately, we could not finalise them all in time for the election materials to go out with the candidate statements. Elections can go ahead without candidate statements and, as the Department has a limited timeframe for elections to take place, we were advised to push on with the election, rather than delaying any longer. We look forward to receiving completed papers in coming days, with the election closing at 4:00pm next Thursday. Thank you to all nominees and best of luck through the process.
Student in Years 3 and 5 have completed three of the four mandatory NAPLAN tests for this year, with the program concluding with the Numeracy assessment on Monday. Students were well-prepared for the testing format and have shown positivity and determination in tackling these assessments.
I am excited to share our opening events of the year from our Parents’ Association, with the annual ‘Welcome Picnic’ taking place on the evening of Thursday 20th March.
A new initiative this year is the ‘CSPS Cakes for a Cause’, with each year level to be assigned to host a cake stall once across the year.
Our Year 1 cohort will first lead this initiative on the afternoon of Friday 28th March. We look forward to sampling their tasty treats on the day!
We are in the process of securing a contractor to install our new senior playground, to be purchased with funds raised by the community in 2024. At this stage, the lead time is approximately twenty weeks. We are looking to commence the project early in the second half of the year.
The design of the playground was informed by our students, who were surveyed on their preferences for equipment. Accessibility has also been prioritised, ensuring that all students can enjoy this space long into the future.
It was great to see many of our school dads at the first social event of the year earlier this week. It was a great opportunity to catch-up with old friends and form new bonds and I hope this group continues to support each other across our time in the school together.
Earlier this week we opened the parent-teacher interviews portal for families. This opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher is important to reflect on learning and wellbeing progress so far, as well as to look forward on future goals and areas for improvement.
Thanks for your ongoing support and keep doing your best.
