Prep to Grade 2:

It’s hard to believe how quickly the weeks are passing. We’re making excellent progress on all fronts and the newsletter is a great chance to reflect on everything that the students have accomplished so far.
Place Value
Prep-2 students have been studying place value this term. Place value is one of the building blocks of understanding numbers. It’s the idea that the value of a digit in a number depends on where it is placed. For example, in the number 42, the digit 4 represents 40 (because it's in the "tens" place), and the digit 2 represents 2 (because it’s in the "ones" place).
Activities to Try at Home:
Prep
- Using Objects: You can use everyday items like buttons, coins, or blocks to demonstrate place value.
Year 1 and 2
- Number Charts: A number chart from 1 to 100 helps children see how numbers are structured. You can highlight different columns to point out the tens and ones places.
- Writing Numbers: Have your child practice writing numbers and say them. When they write "32," help them say, "3 tens and 2 ones."
Hockey Clinic
On the 14th February, Prep-2 students had a fantastic time exploring the exciting sport of hockey! Our little athletes excitedly grabbed their hockey sticks to learn some basic skills on the grass.
We started with a fun warm-up, practicing how to hold the hockey stick properly. Then, the students learned how to tap the ball and dribble it across the field. There were lots of giggles as they tried to steer their balls in the right direction, and everyone enjoyed trying to out manoeuvre their teammates.
As the session progressed, they practiced teamwork by playing small group games, passing the ball to each other and trying to score goals! It was wonderful to see how quickly everyone picked up the game and supported one another on the field.
We’re so proud of how well everyone embraced this new challenge and had fun learning a new sport.
Prep/1 and Year 6 Buddies Create Heartfelt Valentine's Day Cards!
This Valentine's Day, Prep/1 and Year 6 students came together for a wonderful and creative activity that filled our school with warmth and joy! Our older students, the Year 6s, teamed up with our littlest learners in Prep to create beautiful, handmade Valentine's Day cards.
The session began with Prep/1 students choosing their cards, while Year 6 buddies helped them with cutting, gluing, and writing messages of kindness. Together, they worked on their designs, drawing pictures of hearts, flowers, and even little love bugs. It was a fantastic opportunity for our older students to show leadership and care, while our younger students were inspired by their big buddies’ creativity.
Their cards were shared with friends, family members and teachers, spreading happiness throughout the school. We are so proud of the way our students collaborated, showing kindness, patience, and teamwork. This special event was a heart-warming reminder of the importance of friendship and giving.
Literacy
Last week in our Show and Share session, the students had a blast focusing on the letter "S"! It was an exciting opportunity for our learners to explore words starting with this special letter and share their discoveries with the class.
The students brought in a variety of items, each beginning with the letter "S". From snake to a sun, a Sonic toy and even a slinky, our classroom was filled with all things "S"! It was wonderful to see their faces light up as they shared their items and explained how they connected to the letter.
It was a fantastic way for the students to engage with phonics, practice their speaking skills, and learn from one another. We're looking forward to more Show and Share sessions in the future as we continue exploring letters and sounds in fun and interactive ways!
Stay tuned for more letter adventures in the next newsletter.
Open Day
We had such a great time at our open day on Wednesday the 26th. It was fantastic to see so many families come through and have a go at all of the activities. Thanks for coming along!
