Most music teachers are not available for interviews during the normal interview period at the end of term. Families who would like to speak with music teachers about their child’s progress should contact the music department or the teacher directly to organise a time.

The Clarinet

Ashton - Year 7 Clarinettist
Ashton - Year 7 Clarinettist

We are currently looking for students, particularly from years 7 or 8, who would be interested in learning the clarinet. The clarinet is like the violin section of an orchestra in a concert band. It is a single reed instrument from the woodwind family which produces a beautiful sonorous sound and has a large pitch range. For students, the beauty is its portability and relatively small size. They can also play a range of styles of music.

We have several clarinets at school available for hire/purchase. Students are welcome to come down to the music centre to try one and even attend a lesson to see if it suits them.

New clarinet students would be in the Junior Band which rehearses after school on Wednesdays until 4:15pm. Anyone is welcome to attend these rehearsals to have a listen and see what we do. We are currently working towards the Autumn Concert playing ‘Jaws’ theme, ‘We will Rock You’, ‘Hot Cross Buns’ and a few other great charts.

Check out the sites below to see if the sound of the clarinet is for you.
