Luna Park Excursion

We had 18 enthusiastic students with three equally keen staff represent our College for the first time at the annual 'Luna Park Physics Days' last Thursday.  The students all had the opportunity to see physics in action and there were mixed levels of bravery as we had the opportunity to experience several thrill rides.  After being flipped, spun around, dropped and accelerated through a vertical loop, we now have a better understanding of gravity, normal forces, acceleration and motion in general.  A great day was had by all who attended!

Year 12 English SAC

On Wednesday 12th March, Year 12 students sat their first English SAC 9School Assessed Coursework) for the year. Students had spent the previous 7 weeks studying the text The Memory Police and worked well to complete their essays within the 2-hour timeframe.

F1 Excursion

On Thursday 13th March, a group of 50 eager students embarked on an exciting journey to the F1 Student Drive Experience at the world-renowned Melbourne Grand Prix. The day began with an early start, as we gathered at the bus loop at 6:00 am, full of anticipation for the adventure ahead. Once we arrived at the racetrack in Albert Park, we were immediately immersed in the electric atmosphere of the event.

Our first stop was the Education Centre, where students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities. From tyre-changing practice station, gaining a feel for the speed and precision required in the pit crew.

A major highlight of the trip was the special introduction to Brad Jones, the founder and owner of Brad Jones Racing. Brad, who started his racing career with nothing but determination and passion, shared an inspiring story with our students.

As the day continued, our students were able to explore more aspects of the F1 event, from meeting the drivers and teams to seeing the high-performance vehicles up close

the trip was an enormous success. The students gained valuable insights into the world of Formula 1 racing, both from an educational and a practical perspective.

One of our Year 12 students, Aksell, is pursuing a pathway in the hospitality industry and by using his initiative and perseverance he was rewarded with the opportunity to work at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix as a Chef. He performed incredibly well and was an excellent ambassador for our College as a result of his attitude, initiative and willingness to learn.  Here is Aksell’s story.

I stumbled upon the opportunity one day while I was looking through Seek for the yearly salaries of Chefs. I saw this unique opportunity and thought why not, I may as well give it at least a try, and so I did, I sent in my resume and a few days later talked to the Executive Chef of the company, Food and Desire and at first I was just looking for a work placement and I sadly got denied.

I asked for a little feedback as to why I got denied and realised there had been a miscommunication around my age and skill level in the industry.  Once the miscommunication was cleared up, I was offered a trial shift in late February, roughly 2 weeks before the Formula 1 Grand Prix began.  I quickly jumped at this and got myself ready and off to Melbourne.  My trial shift was based in the production kitchen within the Docklands of Melbourne, I ended up passing and being employed by the company which was amazing.  I then went on to work at the Formula 1 Grand Prix as the youngest employee the company had ever hired.

Day 1 - Thursday 12th March was an early morning, I woke up around 4am, got on the train and got to work at 6am.  I was based in the Chicane Kitchen which catered for the Grand Prix suites and many others.  The first day was fairly easy going and pretty quiet actually which was a surprise but day 2 came with a little bit of a shock!

Day 2 was much busier. There were more people in the kitchen, and it was a lot faster paced with extremely minimal room for any errors.  Throughout the day I made many different types of meals from many different cuisines and for the final service that same day we ended up doing a function of 220 people.  As back of house we had to prepare, plate and send off 220 main course meals and 220 deserts with 6 dietary requirements, which were all met within a small amount of time, we faced a few small problems, yet we persevered.

Day 3 was the hot day that peaked at 35 degrees. This was quite rough, but I managed to stay hydrated and remain professional and keep things running smoothly.  On this day we prepared easily over 5000 meals. I began to become accustomed to the challenges I was facing, and they began to feel much easier and normal to take on.

Day 4, the final day, was quite the same as the day before though completely opposite weather as now we were dealing with high amounts of rain fall and it was much cooler which I believe we all took quite a liking to.  The day ran much the same and we finished things up packed down the kitchen and enjoyed each other’s company till we all set off and parted ways.

I met some amazing people, all from different places and lifestyles and we all got along really well and shared stories of our different lives and always had a good laugh with one another whilst working or commuting home. These people that I met helped me through hard moments of the event while also making the good moments even better and I definitely will forever remember them. That’s my story of how the formula 1 Grand Prix of 2025 went for me.

Student Achievements!

Congratulations to Year 10 student Alivia who competed in the 2025 Bright Spartan 2X Trifecta.  Alivia competed in the Bright Super challenge which was 10 kilometres with 25 obstacles.  Alivia absolutely crushed the challenge and came first in her age group.

Well done to Alivia for such an incredible accomplishment! Completing the Bright Super challenge with 25 obstacles and coming in first in her age group is no small feat. Her hard work and determination clearly paid off. She should be so proud of herself—what an amazing achievement!
