School Clubs

Every day matters

There are a variety of school groups and activities that you can be involved in, based on your interests. Joining a lunchtime group or attending school activities is a great way to connect with like- minded people.

Other school activities:

Lunchtime house events run frequently throughout the term, check your weekly student bulletin for updates and information.

There are lots of sporting activities that you can be a part of – you can see Lachlan the Sports coordinator for more information.

Strength Lab

The Homestead Strength Lab is an amazing place, not just because of its obvious benefits, but in a sense that it is a great place to form new bonds and friendships, as you push to hit a new PR.

As the days pass on, more and more students show up to test their strength, and hit new goals. It is a really motivating and encouraging environment, as students push each other to hit that next rep, or go up in weight, students help each other, with all types of experience levels, some people going to the gym for up to a year, some looking to start their journey wherever that may take them.

Facilitated by staff, everyone is treated like equals, and welcomed with open arms, with people being able to express themselves freely, day by day the Strength Lab becomes more and more popular, and more and more people turn out, creating a sense of community.

If you’d like to be a part of Homesteads newest community please come in throughout the week.

Debating

Should all school and university exams be open book? Should pharmaceutical research be funded and conducted by the government? Should tickets to all sporting events be free? These are just some examples of the sorts of debates that students at Homestead Senior Secondary College have explored, each bringing a million different perspectives to the table. Historically, debating has played a pivotal role in resolving disagreements, making decisions, and improving communication in a more persuasive and honorable manner! Instead of just arguing, debating allows us to present different sides of an issue, carefully proving our points.

At Homestead Senior, we actively encourage students to engage in debates, offering a platform for them to ‘argue’ on a variety of important topics. Through the Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV), students get to debate against other schools in the region about some of the most controversial topics that broaden their perspectives on the world! Homestead has been a prevalent school in participating and winning multiple debates for over 2 years now!

Currently, the debating club runs every Monday and Friday and the debaters at Homestead use this time to sharpen their upcoming debates and enhance their literacy, argumentative, and public speaking skills!

In late February, three teams from Homestead Senior Secondary College went head-to-head against other schools, and the feedback received was incredible! Our students not only had fun, but they also gained valuable experience from watching other debates, deepening their debating skills along the way. It was a great opportunity to meet new and fun people, making both personal growth and connections.

We are so proud of all our debaters for consistently displaying a positive attitude towards debating and for representing our school with such pride—often without even realizing the impact they're making! Their dedication, passion, and sportsmanship around debating has continued to inspire those around them, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with their growth and achievements in the debate community.

Keep up the amazing work team!
