Highlighting Inclusion: Disability Inclusion News!

Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Homestead recently buzzed with energy and understanding as we held a fantastic lunchtime event to celebrate Neurodiversity Celebration Day! The atmosphere was truly inclusive, with students from Years 10 to 12 enthusiastically participating in a range of activities designed to raise awareness and foster acceptance of neurological differences.

We were thrilled to welcome representatives from Wyndham Youth Services, who engaged with students and provided valuable information about their support networks.

The highlight for many was undoubtedly the paper aeroplane competition, which saw some impressive designs take flight and sparked friendly rivalry amongst participants.

Beyond the fun and games, the heart of the event lay in the genuine curiosity and empathy shown by our students. A dedicated Q&A session saw insightful and heartfelt questions being asked, leading to meaningful discussions and a deeper understanding of neurodiversity. Students and staff shared their own life stories and personal encounters, creating a powerful sense of connection and shared experience.

The lunchtime event was also filled with opportunities for sensory exploration, with fidget toys readily available for students to engage with. Lucky participants walked away with prizes, adding an extra element of excitement to the day.

Overall, the Neurodiversity Celebration Day lunchtime event was a resounding success. It was a day where everyone felt involved, learnt valuable lessons, and celebrated the unique strengths and perspectives that neurodivergent individuals bring to our school community. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to champion a truly inclusive environment for all our students.
