Year 4 Update

Learning this Fortnight in Year 4. Weeks 8 & 9
English
Continuing their learning of narrative structure, students have been learning to answer literal and inferential questions about our class novel Matilda. They have also focused on handwriting with numbers and punctuation, spelling long vowel sounds, and improving sentence structure by creating and identifying compound sentences.
Maths
Students are continuing to work through the place value unit, focusing on rounding, as well as renaming larger numbers to work out all the ways they can be made using different place values.
SEL
To describe the influence that people, situations and events can have on their own and others’ emotions.
Humanities
Students have been exploring the importance of diversity in Australia. They have been learning to explain what diversity means and discussing why a sense of belonging is important for everyone in our community.
Together for Humanity Incursion
This Wednesday the 18th of March, Year 4 students had an exciting cultural incursion where they explored diverse celebrations, traditional dances, clothing, and music from around the world. It was a fantastic opportunity to appreciate different cultures and deepen their understanding of global traditions!

Reading | We strongly encourage students to read every night. Please use their diaries to record their reading and ensure they are signed by a parent or guardian before returning to school. |
Maths | We encourage students to regularly practice their times tables at home to build confidence and fluency. This will help them progress through their levels and strengthen their math skills by the end of the year. |
Humanities | Students may receive a Humanities homework task to support their learning in class. We encourage families to have these conversations at home to help students deepen their understanding of identity and history. |
Spelling | Students are given spelling words to take home and practice. |
A friendly reminder that school hats are required to be worn during recess and lunch. Students who do not have a hat will have to spend recess and lunch under the shade sails. We also encourage wearing sunscreen and drinking plenty of water during the school day.
The Year 4 Cross Country is coming up on Friday, 28th March and will take place during the first two sessions of the day (9:00–10:45 am). Students are encouraged to wear their house colours and should remember to bring plenty of water and apply sunscreen.
Parents are welcome to come and watch from the council oval, oval carpark, or soccer oval. We look forward to a great morning of running and team spirit!
