We have a few events coming soon, that will be a great way to finish off the first term for 2025!
The wonderful new SRC team for this year wanted to raise money for Ronald McDonald House as their chosen charity this term. So it was decided that a CRAZY HAIR DAY would happen on THURSDAY 27th MARCH! Students are asked to please bring a gold coin donation and get super creative with those hairstyles!!
Our 5/6 students will be participating in their annual Survivor Day challenges on Tuesday 1st April (no jokes!!) and I can't wait to see their teamwork and resilience as they complete a range of team based activities throughout the day.
We will also have our annual ELC/P/1/2 Easter Hat Parade on the last day of term - Friday 4th April from 9am. All families welcome to come along and join in the fun!
Also, this week we have acknowledged and celebrated Harmony Week, with Harmony Day being recognised today - Friday 21st March.
One of the greatest things about our school is the diverse community that we have. We enjoy celebrating our school everyday, however it is particularly special on Harmony Day.
A friendly reminder that we have our annual Family Fun Night on Tuesday 25th March 3.30 - 5.15pm.
There will be a range of activities on offer that will be held across the synthetic oval, basketball courts and gym.
ALL CHILDREN MUST BE SUPERVISED BY AN ADULT as school staff supervision finishes at 3.30pm.
On Saturday 15th March Ms Angela Cooper represented Hillsmeade PS at the unveiling of various community time capsules at the Narre Warren North Hall. Over 20 years ago, Narre Warren Station PS was demolished and Hillsmeade PS was established. In 2000, students from Narre Warren Station PS placed items in a time capsule to be opened 25 years later. Ms Cooper, as a staff member of both HPS and NWSPS, was presented with the time capsule and found inside a range of letters written by students about their life in 2000.
We thank Ms Cooper for representing HPS and NWSPS at this special occasion.
A big thank you to Mrs Collins and Mrs Scott for getting this year's preparations for the 5/6 production underway! Auditions have been held and the cast announced. A big congratulations to all students for putting themselves forward for a role in the show. Rehearsals are now starting to take shape ready for the big performance on Monday 25th August at Bunjil Place.
What an exciting time ahead for everyone!!
We recently had our first Council meeting for 2025. The first component of meeting #1 is to have the Annual General Meeting and appoint office bearers for the year ahead.
I congratulate Carmen Powell on her successful appointment as School Council President for 2025.
The following roles were also allocated to Council members:
Vice President - Kathryn Muscat
Treasurer - Michelle Denison
Secretary - Anna White
Council also appointed a co-opted member and welcome Rachel Vallance back to Council for the year.
Congratulations and thank you to each Council member for their role in supporting the governance of Hillsmeade PS.
As you are aware, this year is our year of review, where we will create a new Strategic Plan for the next 3-4 years. However, we still create an annual plan of goals and targets to work towards throughout 2025.
A big focus this year is the implementation of our new Instructional Model that is in line with the new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0
We are also maintaining a focus on English and Mathematics, with the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0 being rolled out this year and a heavy emphasis on phonics in the junior years. Wellbeing is always at the core of what we do, and a big focus is on establishing strong routines across the school. We will also continue to teach wellbeing strategies in the classroom and offer individualised supports as needed.
If you would like to access our plan, please don't hesitate to check out our website, where you will find a more detailed version to read.
Prep enrolments commence from the 22nd April by completing an online application form.
Please don't hesitate to join a school tour, to find out more about Hillsmeade PS.

Prep 2026 enrolment applications are due online by Friday 25th July 2025.
Commencing Term 2, Kelly Sports will be on offer to families after school on Wednesdays. The program is offered to students in Years Prep - 4. The program will offer a range of sports activities to take part in. The cost per child will be $20 per week for a one hour session. They will also support Prep students by picking them up from their classrooms. All other students will meet them on the synthetic oval.
I encourage families to get involved and see what Kelly Sports has to offer. See below for details on how to sign up for the Term 2 program.
