Principal's Message

Term 1 Week 6

Twilight Sports

A huge congratulations to all students and families for their fantastic participation in last night’s Twilight Sports – one of our schools favourite events! The evening kicked off with a lively cheer from the Kindergarten students as they raced in the 70-meter dash. This was followed by sprints across all year levels, with a fun race that also included past students, parents and staff.

The success of the evening wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work behind the scenes. A special thank you to Eryn Muir and all the staff who helped set up and manage the different parts of the event, as well as the volunteers who assisted as starters, scorers, organisers, novelty event hosts, finish line marshals, and even runners. We also want to express our gratitude to the P&F and Leonie Semmens for organising the BBQ, and Jane and Lou for managing the second-hand uniform shop. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the event such a success. We hope everyone had an amazing time!

Principal Network Meeting-  Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0)

On Thursday, Amanda, Em Glen, and I attended the Riversdale Network Meeting.  Along other Principals and Learning Specialists from Melbourne’s Whitehorse and Boroondara, we learned about the upcoming implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0), which will be rolled out over the next 12 months. VTLM 2.0 is an updated framework designed to support effective teaching and learning practices across schools.

The model includes "Elements of Learning" and "Elements of Teaching" and are frameworks grounded in cognitive science, neuroscience, and educational psychology, aimed at improving the learning process. The Elements of Learning focus on how humans acquire and retain knowledge, emphasising the mental processes that occur during learning, such as attention, memory, and problem-solving. These elements guide educators in understanding how students process and internalise information. The Elements of Teaching, on the other hand, highlight evidence-based practices that best support this learning. This includes effective planning, creating an environment that enables learning, delivering explicit instruction, and providing opportunities for students to apply their knowledge with support.

Together, these elements form a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning, ensuring that both the psychological and pedagogical aspects of education are addressed to maximise student success. We look forward to presenting this to staff.

The Pleasant Bazaar is coming in 2025!!

We’re beyond excited to share that thanks to your incredible support of our community, the Pleasant Bazaar is officially happening! We’re now just days away from finalising the date for November. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, March 12th at 6pm in the school hall. It’s not too late to jump on board and volunteer.

Three-Way Conferences

The Grade 1-6 Three-Way Conferences will be held from March 18th to 21st.  Bookings are open on Compass now. These conferences allow students, parents, and teachers to discuss progress, strengths, areas for growth, and set future goals. It’s a valuable opportunity for families to align with teachers in supporting the student’s education.

The Foundation Information Night will be held on Thursday, March 20th, at 6pm in the hall.

NAPLAN Schedule 2025

Please see the dates below for NAPLAN Assessments. All assessments will be completed during school hours, under the supervision of classroom teachers

Long weekend

Just a reminder that we have a public holiday on March 10th, followed by a student-free curriculum day on March 11th. On this day, staff will be participating in professional development focused on Disability Inclusion. The training will equip staff with strategies to make necessary adjustments and create an inclusive environment for students. This will help ensure that all students have the support they need to thrive and succeed at our school, promoting equal opportunities for everyone.

Have a wonderful long weekend.
