Learning and Teaching

STEM Learning in Prep - Year 2
Prep Sophie: In STEM we looked at pictures of animals and their body parts. I know a polar bear has two ears and fur on its body.
Grade 1 William: In STEM we have been learning about living and non living things. A living person can be a person because they can grow and breathe.
Grade 2 Penelope: Living things move, breathe, grow and have offspring. A non-living thing has no feelings, for example a rock.
Bebras for Year 3-6 students
Bebras is an international initiative aiming to engage students in computational thinking and problem solving skills in a fun and interactive environment.
The Bebras international community has now grown to include 60 countries with over 2.9 million students participating worldwide! Bebras Australia began in 2014 and was delivered by CSIRO until 2023. This year, Australian Maths Trust is delivering the Bebras Challenge for a small fee which will be covered by the school.
DID YOU KNOW that St. John’s School first began participating in Bebras in 2015!!
This year students in Years 3-6 will once again participate in Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge. The students will be involved in the online challenge in a 60 minute (Years 3 & 4) or a 45 minute (Years 5 & 6) session ONCE during the challenge period. This will take place at school between Monday, 31 March and Friday, 2 May.
Parents will need to complete the consent form to participate in the challenge so please check PAM as soon as possible.
Have a go at a couple of Bebras questions with your family (see below)!
