Harmony Day - 17 March

Harmony Day Reflections
We give thanks to Jasmine in Year 5 for her brilliant art work, reflecting on the meaning of Harmony day in our world. We could not resist sharing this with our community. How very special!
Our Year 6 Leaders Reflection of the day
We’re excited to share with you the highlights of our Harmony Day celebrations at St. John’s, a day where we came together to celebrate inclusivity, respect and belonging in our community.
As a school, we pride ourselves on creating a space where all cultures are appreciated and where every individual feels welcome. Harmony Day reminds us of the importance of respecting and embracing our differences while working together to make a positive impact. This year, we were thrilled to have our Social Justice Leaders, Margaux and Anabelle, guide us through some incredible activities that brought our community even closer.
One of the key highlights of our day was the Lapathon, where every step taken helped raise money for Caritas Australia. The funds will go toward supporting communities in need, providing access to essential resources such as food, water and education. It was heartwarming to see so many of you participating, making a tangible difference with every lap.
Throughout the day, we also had the opportunity to experience different cultures through a variety of fun and engaging activities. We kicked things off with a cooking session, where we joined Isabella in preparing delicious pasta, exploring the flavors of Italian culture. Many of us had a chance to taste the fruits of our labor—what a treat! 🍝
Next, we enjoyed a beautiful story time with Sandy, where we listened to stories that explored themes of diversity and belonging. These stories were informative and taught us valuable lessons about appreciating each other’s unique backgrounds. 📖
The excitement continued with a vibrant Bollywood dance session, led by Sheneya. Through the energetic movements and rhythms of Indian dance, we were able to experience the joy and energy of a culture that brings people together through music and movement. 💃🏽
Another memorable activity was the coin trail, where each class worked together to create a long line of coins, symbolizing how small contributions can add up to make a big impact. A huge congratulations to 3/4B for having the longest coin trail—your teamwork and effort were truly inspiring.
Classroom activities also played an important role in reflecting on the meaning of Harmony Day. Students shared their own cultural backgrounds and created artwork and writings that expressed what belonging means to them. The diversity of ideas and creativity was absolutely beautiful to see!
Today has been a wonderful reminder that no matter where we come from, we all belong to one big, welcoming community. We want to thank everyone who participated and helped make this day so special, and encourage everyone to continue practicing kindness, respect, and inclusivity — not just today, but every day.
A heartfelt thank you to all who contributed to the success of this day. And always remember—everyone belongs! 🧡
We also presented some certificates to recognise outstanding participation today by our students. Thank you for making Harmony Day truly unforgettable!
