MACS - Vision for Instruction

Earlier this year, the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) introduced a new plan to help every student succeed: Vision for Instruction.

Based on evidence of how students learn best, Vision for Instruction promotes a unified and consistent approach, and continuous improvement to meet the changing needs of our students. It provides all MACS teachers, including the teachers at Trinity, with the training and resources they need to ensure excellence and equity in all our schools.

Research on how students learn shows that explicit instruction methods are the most effective way to help children gain the knowledge and skills they need to flourish and become lifelong learners.

Vision for Instruction promotes explicit instruction, a way of teaching in which complex skills are introduced to students in small steps, supported by clear explanations and demonstrations of what students are expected to learn. Students then practise what they have learned and receive feedback from their teacher until the skill is mastered.

More information can be found in the Parent Guide to Vision of Instruction:

At Trinity we have been developing our understanding of Vision for Instruction and implementing many of the strategies within it. Many of the components are already a strong part of our current practice.

Explicit Teaching in Prep

This week in PrepSV Ms Shari used the Explicit Teaching approach when teaching handwriting and letter formation.  Ms Shari as she modelled and the children had the opportunity to copy, trace and practice independently. Ms Shari gave each student feedback on their learning as they practiced writing the letters.

SWIF

Today, our school leaders attended SWIF- the Southern Region's 'School Wide Improvement Forum'.  We had the opportunity to reflect on our progress across this year in terms of goals from our Annual Action Plan goals and we began to look at school improverment goals for 2025.  We had the pleasure of listening to Dr Mary Oski - Director of Education Excellence and Debra Egan - General Manager Southern Region as well Education Consulation Dr Simon Breakspear.

Knitting Club

Every week some of our keen students meet for knitting club with Ms Kate and one of our future 2025 parents Jennifer. It is such a wonderful space to enjoy each others company and the joy of learning how to knit.

Children's Liturgy - St James Church onSunday 27th October at the 11am Mass

This coming Sunday, on the 27th of October, 'Childrens Liturgy of the Word' will take place during the 11am Mass at St James Church for children from Prep to Year 6. Fr Andy Bullen will be saying Mass at St James Church this Sunday.

Children who attend Mass with their families will be invited to join the Children's Liturgy of the Word. The children will leave the church at the beginning of Mass after a blessing, and return by the Offertory Procession. The children will listen to the Word of God and have the opportunity to discuss the Gospel message and how they can practise this in their own lives. This will help them to develop their own understandings and relationship with God.

Children's Liturgy Dates for Term 4:

27/10,  10/11,  17/11,  24/11,  1/12,  8/12

We look forward to seeing the children from Trinity Primary School at this Sunday's Mass for the Children's Liturgy.

Bebras Challenge

Over the last few weeks Ms Caitlin has been working with some of our Year 3/4 and 5/6 students on the Bebras Challenge. Bebras is a fun and engaging computational thinking challenge for students from Years 3 to 12. It is an international challenge that involves over 2.9 million students from 60 countries.  This is an extension and enrichment program and we commend our students for challenging themsleves and giving this a go.
