Maggie Dent, a well known author, educator and speaker, refers to resilience as “the ability to successfully manage life, and adapt to change and stressful events in healthy and constructive ways. It is about the capacity to bounce back from positive and negative life experiences. To develop emotional and psychological buoyancy in childhood gives our kids a better prospect of being able to thrive as adults.
Building resilience is a vital ingredient in our parenting. It is a process that directs our interactions with our children as we strengthen their ability to meet life’s challenges and pressures with confidence and perseverance.”

Our Year 5 and 6 children have just returned from camp, a perfect opportunity to build resilience. From all accounts, my own child included, many great experiences were had! I’ve heard stories of children catching waves on a boogie board in “freezing cold water”, blind folded survivor challenges and knee boarding for the first time despite thinking it was going to be too hard! And not to mention sleeping in a different bed, in a room full of children that don’t mind a chat before bedtime!
These amazing experiences give our children the chance to adapt to changes in a safe environment, with wonderful adults encouraging and believing in them.
I am so very grateful for our teachers and leaders that attend camp, who support, challenge and love our children for approximately 72 hours non stop!
“Lord, bless the teachers who give their heart to teaching. Thank you for the special gifts that You have given them and also for giving them a spirit of grace, understanding, and compassion. May they have strength and endurance to perform their many tasks, and may they know and feel the deep gratitude of those they teach and those they serve.”
