Writing SPARK Day Newsletter
On the 20th of September, Alessia, Olivia, Jaslyn, Mia and Elizabeth went to the SPARK Writing Day at St Bernard’s Catholic Primary School Berowra. It was such a fun and educational experience as we got to learn so many crucial writing skills.
Dr Cameron Stelzer was our host and teacher for the day. He had been writing for almost twenty years with thirty six published books for children, including the Pie Rats and Scallywags series. With so much experience under his belt, Dr Cameron taught us a variety of writing techniques, from using the Five Senses to writing with tension and excitement. Building suspense is key to writing a good adventure story as it keeps the reader engaged.
The theme for the SPARK Writing Day was “Go For Gold!” We incorporated sport into writing, creating tense sporting-inspired stories that featured athletes snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Plus, not only were we able to share our writing with other talented writers from other schools, we also made new friendships and we loved getting unique perspectives from different people.
Thank you to all the teachers who helped organise the day, and to the parents who kindly drove us out all that way - we appreciate it so much!
It was such a fun day, and a day we won’t ever forget!
