Information Resources: State Library
Have you ever visited the State Library of Victoria? They have a great website worth visiting as students and as parents. It is free to sign up online and get access to information databases you would otherwise have to pay for. We recommend this every year for our senior (Year 11 and 12) students.
It includes the ERGO website which has fantastic research, study and essay writing help. There is also a website about reading by young people, for young people called Inside a Dog with reviews, a writer in residence and a place to create their own book clubs. There is also a link to the Trove website (National Library of Australia) where you can help fix the digitised versions of Victorian newspapers, including the Ky Free Press.
Lessons this week
Students are approaching their assessment tasks for Library over the next few weeks. We are using our theme of Create to respond to the stories they have listened to and discussed. Our Foundation students have been learning about emotions and have made an emotions toolkit. The Year 4 students will be making a fractured fairytale, applying one of the possible alterations to a traditional fairytale they choose.
As Seen on TV
We have several books which are now Netflix movies or series. If your children liked Enola Holmes on Netflix they might like the book series this is based on. Some others include Stranger Things, Jurassic World and The Last Kids on Earth. We also have some terrific books which are the basis of movies like Maze Runner, Hunger Games and of course Harry Potter.
