Foundation

Dear Families,
This fortnight, our little learners are really settling into their routines and it's been such a joy to watch them work together as a team. I’ve seen so many thoughtful gestures as students are so eager to help one another. Everyone is creating a considerate learning space!
In literacy, we've been having fun with words and sentences. We’ve been identifying how spaces between words help us understand individual words. We practised saying sentences out loud and counting how many words were in each. Students have also played some rhyming games. I congratulate all of our Foundation students for bringing their reading bags to school every day! It’s so wonderful to see them taking responsibility for their books and I love seeing so many of them recording their reading in their diaries. Keep it up!
In maths, we’ve been counting, counting and counting some more! We’re working on forming numbers 1-10 correctly, displaying them as numerals and creating collections to represent them. I’ve seen so much improvement already. We also analysed the number chart from 1 to 30 and began noticing patterns, which sparked some great conversations about how patterns can help us understand numbers better.
Our students are becoming more and more confident in sharing their thoughts and ideas with one another. They’re learning to speak up in kind, gentle ways if something isn’t quite right. We've also been talking a lot about sharing—why it’s important and how we can work together to overcome challenges. This week, during buddy time, the students read books with a theme of kindness and care, discussed the importance of these values and created beautiful pictures.
Lastly, I want to give a huge shout-out to our Foundation students for their incredible efforts and attitude during the swimming sports day! They followed directions with such maturity, took responsibility for their belongings and showed fantastic team spirit by cheering on their teammates. I’m so proud of how they represented our class.
