2025 da Vinci collaborations in our new collaborative learning spaces!
Chevalier College has achieved great success at the regional da Vinci Decathlon competition held annually at The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS). Each year, the Diverse Learning Team prepares groups of eight members from Years 8 to 10 to compete across ten disciplines forming a decathlon focused on a designated theme. A highlight for our Year 10 2022 team was qualifying for the Year 11 2023 State Finals achieving an impressive overall second placing in Art and Poetry. Last year, our Year 8 team achieved overall third placing in the regionals.
The competition was created by Knox Grammar in the spirit of the Olympic Decathlon and is designed to celebrate the academic and unique gifts of Australian youth. Inspired by the world’s greatest scholar and inventor, Leonardo da Vinci (1452 – 1519), the Decathlon embraces higher order thinking, problem-solving and creativity. Team members work under timed conditions to collaboratively embrace their passions and innovative skills to develop critical worldviews to solve real-world problems facing the 21st century.
Through this stimulating and challenging learning environment, students share their talent for Art and Poetry, Cartography, Code Breaking, Creative Producers, Engineering, English, Ideation, Legacy, Mathematics and Science. This year, the Diverse Learning Team has been working with Year 8-10 students who have nominated to engage in exciting projects based on this year’s theme of ‘Sustainability’. Students are being prepared for rigours of competition and we wish them every success.
