Year 12 Study Camp

Leaving the holidays behind and commencing a new year of work at school is never easy, whether that be for students or staff, but the transition into the new year is made more meaningful and in some ways more straightforward when there is something that brings everyone together with a common sense of purpose and direction.

For students in Year 12, this occurred last week when they participated in the Year 12 Study Camp at Melbourne University’s University College.  The students had but one day at school before leaving for three days to immerse themselves in a culture that encouraged them to embrace the challenges of the year, plan for success and set a path with achievable goals that all, hopefully, will reach during this special year.

Through the course of the three days, our Year 12 students listened to previous school alumni share stories of their own journey through Year 12 and advice for this year’s cohort, participated in workshops designed to help students improve their repertoire of study skills and create study plans that will assist them with the requirements of their academic pursuits and better appreciated the importance of resilience to their journey through this demanding year from two guest speakers who have encountered more than their share of challenges.

Whilst there was focus and work required from the students on each of the days, they also had the opportunity to soak in the atmosphere of the Parkville campus of Melbourne University, to explore the city and some of the cultural opportunities this part of Melbourne offers and some time to get to know their peers and staff on a boat cruise along the Yarra.  There was a lot to pack in during the three days of the camp, but there is a sense of momentum and purpose among the Year 12 cohort as a result of the camp, and we all pray that this will be maintained throughout the year.

Secondary Sport

Secondary Sport here at PVCC is well and truly underway for 2025. For Years 8-12, we have begun our trials for our season 1 sports, with seasons due to kick-off on the 19th and 20th of February.

For our year 7’s, we have a swimming unit starting next week, where they’ll take part in 4 weeks' worth of lessons throughout the term, before beginning trials for their sports towards the end of term 1.

Separate to weekly sport, our Secondary Swimming Carnival is taking place next week, on Thursday 13th February. It’s always a fantastic day to bring the College community together and kickstart the school year. This is a whole secondary college event, where all students from Years 7-12 are expected to be in attendance. Spectators are more than welcome to attend on the day, while parent helpers are always welcomed!

If you’d like to spectate, please email Luke Sexton at luke.sexton@pvcc.vic.edu.au

We look forward to another successful year in the Secondary sporting space, here at PVCC.
