Principal's Report

Welcome to 2025 at LPPS! Here we are at the end of week 3! I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our school’s journey and share some thoughts with you. Despite a few unexpected hiccups, I am pleased to report that we have had a smooth and orderly start across the school. Our staff and students have shown incredible resilience and dedication, and it has been heartening to see everyone working together to ensure a positive learning environment.
Thank you to the staff that came in over the holidays to set up their rooms to make vibrant learning spaces. Thanks to our maintenance team and office staff who worked diligently to make sure we had inviting playgrounds and processes completed for a smooth start. We have been working hard to ensure that every child feels settled and supported. The school’s focus is on creating a calm atmosphere where students can thrive both academically and emotionally. Our emphasis is on consistent, predictable routines (CPR). Classes are building routines and processes based on our behaviour expectations. Students are engaged with their learning and there’s lots of laughter everywhere.
I have been appointed to this position until the end of term 2. My goal is to continue to set the tone of a calm, orderly and supportive environment. I will be working closely with our Student Improvement Team to ensure our academic, student voice and wellbeing goals are met. We are here to embed a safe, productive learning environment, embodying our values of respect, resilience and citizenship.
We continue to work closely with Real Schools and are fortunate enough that Adam Voight himself will be coming to work with our staff this term, together with Daniel Vella, our team leader. Our focus is on building a positive culture across the school with our language, conduct and mindset. We can’t control everything, but we can control our response to situations. Our goal is also to guide students to build effective relationships, resolve conflict in healthy, consistent ways, improve student behaviour and reduce bullying. We have analysed the THRIVE data collected at the end of 2024 and we are making a plan to address the findings. We are also working closely with the THRIVE network to try to build a consistent behaviour management plan across the network to help build emotionally resilient students, get all of the mandated curriculum updated and taught in classes and build on for more fun times for students.
Our Year 6 students have had a great start to the year with Water Safety activities at our pool followed by time to practice the skills down at the beach. Our Year 6 Leaders were also awarded their badges at assembly last week. It’s an intensive process to be considered for a leadership position, so they are to be congratulated for being successful. We usually start the process in term 4 but this year we will be starting the process now so we can look at a student across the entire year.
Our 2025 Foundation students settled into school as if they had always been here. Congratulations to the exceptional transition program the Foundation Team ran in 2024. They were able to build the 5 classes so well. On Tuesday night we held our Foundation Treasure Hunt and BBQ. It was lovely to meet with so many of the parents and discuss how well their child had settled into school and see who could solve the Treasure Hunt.
Parent -Teacher interviews were held across the week. Our staff do some intensive hand up data sessions in term 4 and our Wellbeing Team have additional information for teachers. We also have a great team of ES aides who support our students with additional needs. Everyone has had such a smooth transition due to the consistent processes we have.
Our School Council elections are coming up. We have some vacancies available. Please see the front office for a nomination form. It’s a great opportunity to work together to discuss and manage many aspects of our school. We also have a very active PFC group which is always looking out for additional support.
One of the things LPPS can pride itself on is having a great community. I would like to personally thank all of you for being so supportive through the challenges of term 1. I’d like to reassure you that we are getting lots of support with the Dept and I’m confident I can manage the challenges associated with being Acting Principal. We have a strong leadership team, our school is in capable hands and the centre of our school is the needs of our students. I thank you for being an integral part of our school and working with us to move forward.
