Welcome Year 7!
We have been delighted to welcome our new Year 7 cohort to the College over the past week and a half. Our newest students have settled in admirably after completing their three-day START Program, where we focused on building connections with other students, teachers and the wider school community. Students were introduced to our College values of Citizenship, Challenge and Respect, and have been busy implementing these in all aspects of their lives at school. Their enthusiasm and positive attitude have been fantastic to see, and teachers have been impressed with their willingness to participate and learn.
The work has only just begun for students mastering our Ready To Learn behaviours and our entry and exit routines, but it has been fantastic to see how well our Year 7 classes are learning and adapting to their new school life.
Next week our Year 7s will embark upon one of the most exciting events during their school year: Year 7 Camp at Campaspe Downs, Kyneton. Their enthusiasm for this has been overwhelming , and we can’t wait to see them further challenge themselves, work together and to demonstrate behaviours our College can be proud of.
I have had a great start to Year 7 and I hope it stays like this. I have made a whole bunch of new friends and they have been so kind ever since. The staff and students have been so welcoming and nice ever since I started. I’m so excited to start off the school year with camp and do many more programs, like school sports. ~ Charlotte Noblet 7D
After experiencing Year 7 for a week, I’ve realised the differences from primary school. Wantirna College introduces a new fun and thrilling way of learning. I love switching classes and meeting new teachers and I especially love the Orchard. I feel Wantirna gives their new Year 7 students a warm welcome. They have a nice and comfortable uniform. Some of my highlights so far have been the Green Hat workshop and also things like getting a locker and coming to Mason House during recess and lunch to play games and make friends. So far I have loved Year 7 and I can’t wait to see what is to come in my next years at Wantirna College. ~ Max Rawlings 7E
I have loved the change from primary school to high school. It has been challenging trying to find my way around and what I need but it’s fun having different classes in different classrooms – it’s so much better than one classroom every day! My highlights are PE because we get to interact with other classes and make more friends! I’m very sport, so all the pathways are magnificent to have. ~ Kai Summerhayes 7D
Impressively so, Year 7 has started off great. High school has been a big change, but certainly not a bad one. For me, I’m especially thankful for the teachers amazing efforts to help and ensure all Year 7s feel welcomed and settled in. Mr. Martin has already been giving his best to make sure his class is engaging and always brings a positive environment for the students in his class. ~ Khloe McGregor 7E
As we move further into the term, we encourage parents to support their children by checking in on their experiences, helping them stay organised, and reinforcing the importance of routines. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we are here to support every student as they navigate this exciting new period of their lives.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 7s and look forward to seeing them continue to grow and thrive at Wantirna College.
Mr. Andrew Biggs
