Learning Space 2 Juniors

This week the Preps in LS2 have started their writing clinics!

We have been practicing some letter formation (a,g,c,d,g) and started sharing orally sentences to match experiences they have had such as playing on the playground.

Welcome to a New Year!

Key Highlights for February

🎒 Classroom Set-Up & Expectations

Students have been settling into routines and understanding the expectations for learning and behaviour. We have focused on fostering a positive classroom environment where responsibility, respect, kindness, and collaboration are at the forefront.

📖 Our Learning Focus

  • Literacy: Students are developing their reading and writing skills through engaging texts and structured learning activities. A strong emphasis is placed on comprehension, vocabulary development, spelling & grammar.

  • Mathematics: This term, we have focused on data representation, with hands-on activities and discussions to strengthen mathematical thinking and real-life applications.

    This term, our focus for:

Clinic 1 Seniors: Data, Counting & Place value, Addition & Subtraction, Time, Multiplication & Division.

Clinic 2 Seniors: Data, Addition & Subtraction, Length & Area, Time, Multiplication & Division.

Clinic 3 Seniors: Data, Prime, composite, square & triangular numbers, Time, Four Operations Area.

  • Inquiry:

Exploring Isaiah 60:1: “Arise and Shine, for your light has come and the glory of the LORD is upon you.” Students will connect this scripture to the work and mission of their House Saints as Pilgrims of Hope.

🎭 SWELL Week

During SWELL (Student Wellbeing and Engagement in Learning) Week, students will research their House Saints—St Francis De Sales, St Kevin, St Patrick, St Mother Teresa, St John Bosco, and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop—and link their findings to the Jubilee theme 'Pilgrims of Hope'. They will present their work in an engaging way for younger students.

✏️ Personal Learning Plan (PLP) Goals

Students are working on Personal Learning Plan (PLP) goals, focusing on literacy, numeracy, social skills, and personal growth. Regular check-ins will help them stay on track to achieve their targets.

How You Can Support Your Child

  • Encourage a consistent reading routine at home.
  • Discuss their learning goals and daily experiences.
  • Provide a quiet, organised space for homework and study.
  • Celebrate their efforts and achievements—big or small!

We look forward to a fantastic term ahead. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Wishing you all a wonderful February!

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

SENIORS

GRADE 3/4 HOCKEY CLINICS

We are excited to welcome the Hockey Victoria Roadshow to our school! Grade 3/4 students are being given the fantastic opportunity to try out the exciting game of hockey! They will learn the skills of the game through exciting game-based activities suited to every year level and ability. Hockey Victoria will be sending their amazing Participation Officers to our school next week on Friday to provide an engaging, fun, and safe hockey experience for everyone. Please ensure your child is wearing their sports uniform and has their hat and water bottle with them.

At Hockey Victoria they pride themselves in providing an enjoyable experience for every student, so keep an eye out and see if you can spot one of their coaches at school soon! If you enjoy the sessions during school, you can continue with your hockey experience by joining a local Hookin2Hockey program. Please refer to the link below to find a local program: www.hookin2hockey.com.au With programs all over the state you can find a local program that will suit your schedule.

Parents a notification has been placed on Operoo for you to acknowledge.

GRADE 6 BIKE EDUCATION

In Week 4 our Grade 6s will begin their 2nd level of Bike Education: Pathways. They will begin on the school grounds recapping the skills learnt last year. For the remainder of the sessions they will be using the skills they have learnt, riding on pathways in the community. Further information will be provided via Operoo for parents.

We will also be looking for some parent helpers to ride with the students once they begin the pathways program. To assist you must have a current Working with Children Check registered with the school office. If you are able to ride a bike and assist between 11.35-1.30 on the following days: Friday February 28th, Friday March 14th, Friday March 15th and Friday March 21st, please contact me at gfaiola@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au or you can complete the Operoo form that has been posted. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. A reminder that you need to have a current Working with Children Check that s registered with the school. Please note it is important that if you offer to assist, that you attend on the day otherwise it may prevent students from going out for Bike Ed.

Parents an Operoo form has been posted for you to give permission. Please ensure your child’s profile is also up to date. Like last year, you will also need to complete and sign a bike and helmet safety check and return it to your child’s Home Group teacher at the latest by Friday 14th February.

Students will need to bring their bikes and helmets to school next Friday 21st February. Students can leave their bikes outside their Learning Space. If students need to leave their bicycles at school for the duration of the program they can remain locked up in the bike shed.
