Principal's Message

Mr Bill Innes | Interim Principal

Greetings Parents and Friends of The King’s College,

As we near the halfway mark of Term One, it is good to take a moment to draw breath and review what has been as we look forward to what is to come.

Coming in as the interim principal has been a real blessing. I have loved getting to know the staff, and it has been truly reassuring to see the systems, dedication and commitment that characterise our staff’s endeavours. As a fresh set of eyes, backed by thirty years as a school principal, I can honestly say that your children are in capable, safe, dedicated hands.

Uniform as a Unifier

As you will have picked up from earlier communications, I, in consultation with our staff, have chosen to place a strong emphasis on uniform this year. While this may, to some, seem like a petty area to focus on, my reason for this is that, done correctly, a uniform unites – it builds a shared identity – and therefore, it can serve as a foundation upon which to build culture. When our students put on their uniforms in the morning, they become ambassadors for the College. As a Christian College, they become, by extension, ambassadors for Christ. This, of course, is in addition to becoming ambassadors for their families and themselves.

The Uniform Policy has been updated, including new options for secondary girls' summer (shirt/skirt) and winter (shirt/pants/skirt), with the dress being phased out, and minor changes in other areas to reduce ambiguity.  The full policy can be accessed via the link below:

Wins and Losses

I am pleased to report that we have seen a significant improvement in dress at the College.   However, a significant number of our students have still not grasped the importance of wearing their uniforms correctly when off-campus - while on their way to school, at the local shops and malls, and on their way home from school in the afternoons.  These are the times when they are most visible to the public and our broader community.

I am therefore seeking your support, from home, to support the College by ensuring that your child/ren leave your home dressed correctly and return home, the same – especially when walking to school, using public transport, or visiting the shops. An obvious, and easily remedied issue at the moment, is the number of boys leaving home in the morning and leaving school in the afternoon with their shirts hanging out.

Building Culture

It is said that it takes a village to raise a child. Once we, as a school community, have embedded our uniform as a unifier, we can move onto other aspects of our corporate College culture, together. In this way, we can all share in the cultural growth of our College and our children.

Together, we grow in Christ.

Bill Innes
