Foundation News
What a wonderful night it was on Tuesday at our Welcome Mass where our Foundation families were welcomed into our community with a plant, A lovely initiative from Kate, our RE Leader, who sees the plant as a metaphor for our children. Plant it in the ground, feed it, nurture it and watch it grow over the journey! Thanks to all families who were able to attend! And for those who couldn't, hopefully you've received your gift by now.
More Buddy News
A little visit this week to our Buddies where the Foundation students had a chance to do some finger knitting with their 5/6 counterparts. It'll be great to see some finger knitting over the next couple of weeks....great for fine motor skills, as well as fostering patience and resilience.
We continue to foster relationships in the classroom with each other as we get to know others better, When you're feeling sad, it's great to be able to have others to lean on. Audrey, Elissa and Ella are developing a lovely friendship with each other. Well done, girls.
Year One
This week we have had a great time sharing our "Me in a nutshell bag". The conversations around the tables were fabulous to listen too. Everyone had something to say about what they liked, the people they loved and their favourite colour.
Here is what some children wrote in Writing time:
I like my barbie because she can dance ballet. (Elena)
I like aeroplanes because they can fly. (Finbar)
I like reading because it is good for your eyes. (Ben)
Year 2/3
Hello Families,
It was so great to see so many of you at the Welcome Mass this week. The class voted and selected Mariana and Stella as the Year 2/3 Student Representatives. They received their badges at the Mass, I know they will be great leaders. In other news this week we have been enjoying using concrete materials in Math and playing games to support our learning with a focus on place value. I have taken a photo of the game in case you would like to play this at home. Next week, is Pancake Tuesday on the 4th of March. I would like to make pancakes in the class at around 12.40pm. I am wondering if there are any parents or family members that would like to help in class to make this? If so please email me at: tmarks@shpreston.catholic.edu.au if you are not able to help, no worries. The idea of this day is to clear out the cupboards and therefore if you have plain flour, eggs, milk, oil, honey or jam and you would like to donate it this would be greatly appreciated.
Have a wonderful and sunny weekend.
Year 3/4
Year 3/4 Assembly next Thursday 6th March at 2:40pm.
In Wellbeing this week we have been talking about the positive emotions students feel when in the classroom and playground. We also discussed the negative emotions that students feel. From there we identified strategies to use when we feel this way to change our emotions from negative emotions to positive ones.
Here are a few:
Lonely - ask a friend to play with you, sing a song, play on the adventure playground as there is always students there.
Fear - go to a trusted adult, ask a friend to help you face your fear.
Disappointed - distract self to take your mind off it, positive self talk.
Annoyed - deep breathing, find a quiet spot to scream and let out your annoyance.
Next week students will create their own Emotions Toolbox to use if they feel these emotions.
Come to our Assembly next Thursday to hear about a few more strategies.
Year 4/5 and Year 5/6
Last week in Library with Rosetta, Year 4/5 and Year 5/6 started something VERY exciting... a new multimedia project! The students have selected an Australian author and will be diving into their works, aiming to present their findings in a creative and engaging way using multimedia tools. This project will not only help develop research and presentation skills but also encourage students to explore Australian literature through a variety of formats, such as video, slideshows and digital artwork, just to name a few. We can’t wait to see their innovative presentations come to life!
We would like to thank Sandra, one of the wonderful 4/5 LSO for helping us make this beautiful prayer cloth. It is very pretty because it is very detailed and when we look at it, it reminds us of God. It also stands out because the flowers that we made, Sandra made them look 3-D. She also helped us decorate our class candle and made it match our class prayer cloth. Massie, Mia and Benjermen
Each of the year 4/5 have really enjoyed doing a Chinese lunar New Year snake with lots of vibrant colors and designs. We also used gems and gold, silver or red glitter glue to make them stand out. All our color patterns make each snake unique.
