Year 5

Anna Kelly

Last Wednesday, we had an exciting incursion about money from Talk Money. Lots of us started nearly knowing nothing about money but Talk Money covered all the gaps about how to save, why to save and how to confidently and respectfully talk about money. We learnt about Money and how to save it resourcefully. The teacher from Talk Money even gave us some tips on where to save money like in a water bottle, can you believe it? She was really helpful and adapted our skills about money. It was a wonderful experience in general and we are so lucky and glad to have learned more about the importance of money. We went through lots of different scenarios of friends asking for money and how to get out of such a situation feeling good about yourself and your choices.

Following our interesting incursion, our maths task was that we were given a budget of $500 to buy 8 family members and friends gifts for Christmas. We were given a variety of catalogues such as: Aldi, Big W, Coles  and JB-HI-FI. The whole experience was like a real shopping expedition except that there was a lot less stress. It was tough at some points though, especially at the end - we had to make sure we didn’t go over the budget. We loved it!Written by Ai-Ling Vuong and Sissi Stenzel
