Dear Parents and Carers

This week marked the beginning of our top playground refurbishment. On Monday the heavy earth moving equipment rolled through the Clovelly St gate and the safety fences went up. Although the playground closure is inconvenient in the short term, starting work now guarantees the completion of the refurbishment before school resumes in 2024.

Despite the playground disruptions, our Remembrance Day liturgy went ahead in the undercroft. Remembrance Day, originally known as Armistice Day, is held on the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in WWI. It was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when the guns finally fell silent for the last time on the Western Front.

Family Mass and Sausage Sizzle

I remind you our Term 4 Family Mass is planned for Saturday 2nd December, at 5:30pm. If you would like your child to participate in the Mass or you would just like to stay for our sausage sizzle following mass, please complete the Google Form to ensure we cater adequately.

Kindergarten Orientation

This time of the year is always filled with mixed emotion as we prepare to farewell our Year 6 students and welcome our new Kindergarten students. Today our Kindy class of 2024 will attend their second orientation day and I am delighted to report that enrolment numbers are strong. Thank you to the wonderful Kindy parents from this year that provided morning tea and sound advice to our new parents last week. This week our new and returning parents headed to the Cat and Cow for a coffee and chat.

P&F President

We are still looking for a new P&F President to take the reigns in 2024. The current executive committee and I have reached out to a few individuals, however we are still heading to the final meeting for 2023, this evening at 6.30 pm with no nomination. I wish to publicly thank Sarah Courtenay for her service to the school, particularly over the past twelve months as I have been finding my feet as the new principal. I realise a voluntary position such as this requires time and effort but the benefits to the school both financially and in the capacity of building community are immeasurable. If you are interested in taking on the role of P&F President, but would like more information on what is involved please contact me through the school office. Alternatively you can make contact by emailing stmmparentsandfriends@gmail.com

School Routines

As we approach the end of the year, it is more important than ever to observe the routines and expectations that allow us to keep the students safe, calm and ready to learn. An increasing number of students are arriving at school outside the allocated drop off times. We have students arriving well before 8.20 am when there is no teacher supervision and well after 8.50 am when classes have already started for the day. In addition, I remind you that if you are collecting your child early you must come to the office and wait until your child is brought up from the classrooms. Under no circumstances are parents or carers to go directly to the classrooms.
