What Did You Do At School?

Prep

Wow! What a way to end the year! We loved preparing for The Prep Nativity performance this term. In Week 8, students confidently took to the stage to present the greatest story ever told to the wider College community. They sang with gusto, spoke with clarity and shined God’s light as they performed.

We are proud of each and every student! This year, they have shown perseverance, resilience, determination, positivity and joy. We wish them all the best for Year 1; we know that they will continue to grow into the incredible people God has destined them to be.

Year 1

We excitedly welcomed the end of the school year, celebrating all we have achieved as well as preparing for Christmas! We learned about the history of Christmas ornaments and decorations and decorated our own salt dough ornament. Did you know Tom Smith invented the cracker as packaging for his almond bonbon sweets? The inspiration for the bang came to him when he threw a log onto his fire, and it made a loud, crackling sound.

God bless our beautiful families, and we look forward to seeing you in 2024.

Year 2

It’s been an exciting time as we finished the school year. We all wandered over to the big Junior School building for our Year 3 transition last week, learning about our new classes for 2024. There was some nervousness, but once the big reveal was made, we all now have something pretty amazing to look forward to.

As we wind down the year, it has been great to reflect on how far this student group has come in such a short time. Growing in so many ways, we pray it continues as these incredible students now get to enjoy a well-earned holiday break. Thank you to every parent and guardian who has supported us in 2023. We are grateful for all your encouragement of your students and of us as teachers. Congratulations on an amazing year and we can’t wait to watch these superstars grow into everything God has made them to be in the coming years!

Year 3

On Tuesday 28 November, parents, teachers, and students gathered to celebrate the Year 3s’ fantastic efforts at their very own Film Festival! Throughout the term, students had been designing, creating and filming a short stop motion film, as part of their Integrated Studies unit Frame-by-Frame. The filming process involved them taking pictures one frame at a time, before editing all their photos together to make an animation. Students had to overcome challenges like figuring out the right angles, lighting, and how to make characters look like they were moving smoothly. This involved a lot of teamwork as they collaborated with each other to bring their visions to life.

We are so proud of what our students have achieved, and hope you enjoy watching their incredible videos!

Year 4

We had a fantastic time showcasing our stop motion animations to our parents and friends! We even gave our special guests movie tickets. Some students collected, others ushered, and then we all sat down and enjoyed the show. Each group created a beautiful mini presentation before their movie was shown, where they shared what they were most proud of from their hard work across the term.

We were very proud and blown away by our amazing presentations, considering this was the first time we had ever attempted animation.

Year 5

We have been looking forward with anticipation to the announcement of the 2024 School Leaders. In devotions we have been talking about Andrew and have learnt that not all people have up front leadership positions but make it possible for others to do amazing things. We discovered that Andrew introduced Peter to Jesus and Peter went on to do amazing things. While 14 of us will have specific leadership positions, we will all look for ways to serve the Oxley Community in 2024. It has been wonderful to learn from the example of the Year 6 students. We are ready for the challenges of Year 6. Ready to lead. Ready to serve our College community. Ready to grow as learners.

Year 6

We had a fabulous time at Graduation Night. First, we enjoyed a sumptuous meal together at Chirnside Park Country Club. While eating, we heard tales from the nine years our students have enjoyed learning at Oxley. We also played a Guess Who game where we matched Prep photos with students and teachers. Back at LMC, our Graduation Ceremony was a time to remember. When our name was called, each student walked across the stage to be presented with a certificate by Dr Peck. Year 6 Graduation was a night we will cherish for a long time!
