Celebrating Entrepreneurship at All Saints’ Innovat[ED]
All Saints’ Innovat[ED] recently concluded its Semester-long $20 Boss program, a celebration of entrepreneurship and social impact among its Year 7 and Year 8 students. Teams of budding entrepreneurs crafted unique product ideas and showcased them at the Christmas markets, with a significant portion of proceeds directed towards charitable causes.
The program’s success this year marks a significant milestone, empowering students to delve into the realms of entrepreneurship while fostering a sense of social responsibility. Among the array of inventive products were keyboard cleaning slime, fidget toys, sustainable straws, pet treats and accessories, and laser-engraved study rulers.
Guided by the program’s ethos, as well as prioritising profitability, students aimed to make a positive difference through their ventures. Their innovative products and community-oriented services underscored not only dedication but also their ability to address real-world challenges. The $20 Boss initiative plays a pivotal role in nurturing students’ problem-solving skills and helps them better understand their relationship with money.
Observing the students' boundless creativity and unwavering determination has been nothing short of inspiring. Congratulations to all the Year 7 and Year 8 InnovatED students and their dedicated facilitators for their exceptional work and commitment.

Year 8W’s Innovative Chemistry Project: ‘Chemistry; The Good, The Bad, The Ugly’
Last term 8W completed an exciting innovative project under the guidance of their teacher Miss Stacey Fairhead. The project, which was the first of its kind at ASC, involved writing a book and crafting copper etching artwork plates.
The learning objectives for this project were:
- To understand the importance of considering ethics in the study of science.
- To learn about transformational developments of science and its involvements in history, both positive and negative.
- To develop research, writing and editing skills.
- To develop collaboration and communication skills
In planning for the project, students were given a range of chemical substances to choose from and research. In small groups they began to dig more deeply into their molecule’s place in history, classifying it as ‘good’, ‘bad’, ‘ugly’ and, in some cases, more than one. Many of the chemical substances posed historical and ethical questions, some of which are presented in the book.
In small groups, students conducted extensive research, including interviews with experts, which further aided their understanding of the chemistry of the molecule and its role in history.
Each group was responsible for creating an artwork that reflected their substance. Each artwork was created in a complex set of steps that involved copper etchings created through a redox reaction. The final etchings were then inked and pressed to create an image on paper. The scanned artworks are included in the book, and the originals are set to be put on display in the CPA foyer, offering our community the opportunity to appreciate them firsthand.
