From the Principal
Congratulations
A huge congratulations to Tiffany (5CB) who recently participated in the Victorian
Gymnastics Championship competition.
We are thrilled to announce that Tiffany won the award for Victorian overall champion in her level, and her team also won the collective championship. This is a wonderful effort!
What makes this effort even more remarkable is that Tiffany had a cold and fever throughout the event!
We are all very proud of Tiffany and we hope to see you in the Olympic Games one day!
Remembrance Day
Last Saturday 11th November 2023, was Remembrance Day. This day has special significance as we recall, above all days, the women and men who, through personal sacrifices, contributed to the evolution and the identity of this country. Due to the day
falling on a Saturday, we honoured this Remembrance Day with special class activities and observing a minute of silence at 11.00am on Monday 13th November.
Classes had the opportunity to view the Victorian State Remembrance Service as they learnt more about this important date on our calendar.
Thanks to Ms Hong for coordinating this event.
Camelot Rise Staff Day
Friday 27th October was officially ‘World Teacher’s Day’ and this is often a day when the teaching staff at schools enjoy a special morning team. At Camelot Rise we prefer to acknowledge all the staff that work at our school regardless of the role they have. On
Thursday, 26th October we had a special morning team to thank the entire staff that work at our school who work together to make our school the best it can be. Every person that works at Camelot Rise Primary School has an important role to play and no role is any more important than any other.
We want to take the time to publicly thank our wonderful staff for their continued efforts to help Camelot Rise Primary School improve in all facets of our teaching and learning. The staff go to enormous lengths behind the scenes to ensure that we are catering to all our students’ individual needs, both academically and emotionally. A significant part of this work is done after hours and at home, so it is not always seen. I can guarantee that the stereotype of 9-3:30 could not be further from the truth. We are very proud to lead this dedicated and hard working staff and if you do get the chance to drop them a line between now and the end of the year, I’m sure your thanks will go a long way to brightening their day.
Chess Tournament
Last Wednesday a number of students from Camelot Rise Primary School participated in an interschool chess competition at Mount Waverley North Primary School, alongside
Mount Waverley PS, Essex Heights PS, and the host school.
With a total of 40 students competing, Camelot Rise was represented in both junior and senior sections. The junior team, including Tiara, Mikah, Sruthik, Jaden, and Rumaan, showed determination throughout. In the senior division, Jayvier, Ritvik, Alex, and Austin played with great enthusiasm and skill.
Noteworthy performances came from Jaden, securing the top spot in the junior section, and Javen, who landed the runner-up title in the senior section. An outstanding effort by all!
Thanks to Mr Young for coordinating this event.
Parent Contributions 2024
By the end of November, we will inform the school community of the Parent Payments for 2024. The Department of Education has asked schools to itemise the payments. The cost for Parent Payments is discussed and approved at our Finance and School Council meetings prior to being announced to the school community.
Are you leaving CRPS in 2023?
We ask that you let us know if you are moving or have enrolled in another school in 2024. We require this information as soon as possible to establish grade structures for the start of the new school year. If your child is currently in Grades Foundation – 5, and will not be at Camelot Rise in 2024, please notify the school office in writing as soon as possible.
Pupil Free Days
Just a reminder of the date for our remaining Pupil Free Day
- Teacher Professional Practice Day on Thursday 30th, November. This day will be used by teachers to plan for 2024.
This concludes all pupil free days in 2023.
Final assembly of the year
One date that our community look forward to is the final assembly of the year because we farewell our grade six children for their final day of primary school after a 7-year journey.
The date and time for this is Tuesday 19th, December commencing at 9.15am.
At the assembly we will listen to the Year 6 graduates sing their farewell song, watch the Year 6 PowerPoint and celebrate the year we have had.
We look forward to this very special assembly.
Support your child's education with 12 months free internet at home
The Australian Government has established the School Student Broadband Initiative to provide free home internet for one year for up to 30,000 eligible families with school-aged students.
The initiative aims to boost education opportunities. NBN Co is leading the rollout of this initiative across the country.
How the School Student Broadband Initiative can help your child
Children who can access online learning at home as part of their education are more likely to engage in classroom activities.
Access to fast internet at home can also support children to build their digital skills, learn how to safely use the internet and take part in a world that is more reliant on digital technology.
Eligibility
To be eligible, families must:
· have a child living at home enrolled in an Australian school in 2023
· not have an active National Broadband Network internet service at their home* (having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility)
· live in a premises that can access the National Broadband Network through a standard connection. NBN Co will check this for you after you apply
· register interest with your school and complete a consent form to be assessed for eligibility.
*If an address has been disconnected within 14 days prior to an eligibility check – the address will be classified as ineligible. There may be cases where exceptions can be made, please contact the School Student Broadband Initiative team at SSBI@education.vic.gov.au to discuss further.
How the School Student Broadband Initiative works
If you are eligible, your home internet service will be provided at no cost for one year with a participating internet provider over the National Broadband Network. Each internet provider has its own step-by-step process to get you connected, which may involve you providing identification.
Once you sign up, the internet provider will help you set up your connection. The initiative does not include devices such as a computer or tablet. Other members of your household can use the internet service provided through this initiative.
The one-year period will start from the day your service is activated with your chosen provider. At the end of the one-year period, you will not be placed onto a paid service by your internet provider without your consent. The Australian Government is considering options beyond the one-year free period.
How to apply
· Ask your school for a copy of the School Student Broadband Initiative consent form.
· Complete the consent form and return to the school.
· NBN Co will use student address details on the consent form to confirm eligibility.
· If you are eligible, NBN Co will issue a voucher for your family to use to sign up with a participating internet provider. This will be provided to you by your school.
Please note: NBN Co will review the home address for eligibility. No personal information other than your main home address will be shared with NBN Co. Please see the consent form for details about how personal information will be used.

Thuderstorm asthma - be prepared this pollen season
Grass pollen season, which typically runs from October to December each year in Victoria, brings an increase in asthma and hay fever symptoms. It also increases the risk of
thunderstorm asthma. For people with asthma or hay fever, especially those who experience wheezing or coughing with their hay fever, thunderstorm asthma can be sudden, serious and even life threatening.
Camelot Rise will implement a range of measures to keep our school community safe as the risk of thunderstorm asthma increases.
Our staff are trained in asthma first aid, and we will monitor the VicEmergency app to receive thunderstorm warnings, and, where appropriate, keep students indoors when weather forecasts identify greater risk.
During the season, there are some things you can do to prepare and protect yourself and your family:
· If your child has ever had asthma, talk to your doctor about what you can do to help protect them from the risk of thunderstorm asthma this pollen season, including updating your asthma action plan. Taking an asthma preventer properly and regularly is key to preventing asthma, including thunderstorm asthma.
· If your child has hay fever, see your pharmacist or doctor for a hay fever treatment plan and check if you should have an asthma reliever puffer. These are available from a pharmacy without a prescription.
· If your child has hay fever and experiences wheezing and coughing, it is important to make sure they don’t also have asthma. Speak to your doctor about an asthma action plan.
· Where possible, avoid being outside during thunderstorms from October to December, especially during the wind gusts that come before the storm. Go inside and close your doors and windows. If you have your air conditioning on, turn it to ‘recirculate’.
Protect yourself this pollen season – managing asthma and allergies matters.
