NWS Association Awards Ceremony

Congratulations to Kayden Elliott who today attended the North West Sports Association Awards Ceremony. After so much success this year in Cross Country (and athletics) he deservedly received a North West Blue Award. Just to recap Kayden achieved a Gold Medal for his first-place performance at CHS Cross Country (16s Boys) at Eastern Creek earlier this year. He also achieved a silver medal in the 1500m at CHS Athletics.  A Sporting Blue Award is awarded to a student-athlete who has achieved the highest level of sporting excellence in their chosen sport. We are so proud of you Kayden. Congratulations from the entire School Community.

GIHS Open Boys Cricket Report

The GIHS Open’s Cricket team played FARRER from TAMWORTH at Lynch Oval on Monday in the regional final of the Alan Davidson Shield. Farrer won the statewide competition last year for the first time and with six of that team still available this year, started as firm favourites.

GIHS Captain Howie Eastwood won the toss and boldly declared that Glen would bat. With brother Leo at the other end, Howie faced up for the first ball. If Glen were going to put up a fight Howie needed to lead the way. Blake Sicluna steamed in off his long run and put an ice ball on the spot above off stump. The pitch was a bit wet from overnight rain and the first ball skidded through to take a faint edge and Howie was out for a golden duck. A bad start. Riley Grob came and went for 1 and Glen was 2 for 2 in the second over. Rocco held the bigger Farrer boys at bay for 6 overs before he tried to pull a lifting ball and gloved a catch that was taken over the head first slip, departing for a hard-fought 4. Brendon Landsborough decided the best form of defense was attack and started swinging. That was entertaining for a few overs and Brendon made 12 before he miscued a booming drive to send a catch to the cover fieldsman. Emory Levy Blair came out to join Leo and they proceeded to put on the partnership of the match, taking the score to 55 before Emery came unstuck with the introduction of celebrated off-spinner Jordon Lewington. Emory tried to go large over the bowler's head only to send the ball sky high and straight down the throat of mid-off. Out for 11 and GIHS is in trouble at 4 for 55. All-round sportsman Greg Seiber came out to show his skills with a bat but didn’t trouble the scorers, popping the simplest of chances to short cover off the first ball he faced. Lewington was now on a hat trick. Lachie Cameron looked the part as he borrowed a bat and went out to stop the rot. Farrer crowded round. Incredulously he mirrored Seiber and popped the gentlest of balls to short cover again. Lewington had his hat trick.

The tail didn’t wag any further as Will, Corey, and Toby got ducks to see GIHS lose their last 6 wickets for 5 runs and bowled out for 60 in the 26th over. 6 ducks in the innings with 3 of the Golden variety. The only bright spot was Leo who carried his bat and remained 15 not out.

Farrer made quick work of the run chase, passing the score in the 11th over for the loss of 2 wickets to record a resounding victory. Both wickets fell to Leo Eastwood who completed a good all-round game with both bat and ball.

The boys were outclassed but as always, enjoyed each other's company and maintained good spirits and sportsmanship. Good luck to Farrer on their quest to win the competition again this year.
