Year 10 Road Safety Incursion

On Wednesday 3 December, all Year 10 students will be participating in the RYDA Road Safety Education Program. This will take place at Sandown Park Greyhound Racing Facility.

Many of our students will soon be learner drivers, or passengers in a car with newly licensed drivers, so thinking about individual behaviour in cars from both a driver and a passenger’s perspective is timely.

RYDA gives students an extensive introduction to road safety across a number of topics from understanding how personality impacts risk to buying and maintaining a safe car.

In the RYDA workshop, students work with their peers to come up with strategies to be better prepared and make good decisions, both as drivers and as highly influential passengers. These resources have been developed to help you support your child as they navigate through a time in their lives when they are at increased risk of injury.

The RYDA program is a full day of workshops, with highly engaging practical demonstrations, real life narratives, video quizzes and interactive role play. The program takes students on a journey from understanding and identifying crash factors, to appreciating how personal factors affect risk, developing personal strategies and plans and finally the motivation to approach driving as a social responsibility and recognise protective measures such as the graduated licensing and safe system approaches.

Celebrating Student Achievements

It is wonderful to be able to look back at the year and recognise the contributions of our students, both to their own learning and the wider community.

Our end of year assemblies next week will be a wonderful opportunity to publicly acknowledge and give thanks to these students, appreciating their efforts to strengthen our community.

We are also privileged to have a number of outside organisations recognise these students, and we thank them for their commitment to celebrating the efforts of our young people.

ARTHUR WILLIAMS JUNIOR CITIZENSHIP AWARD

The Rotary Club of Noble Park/Dingley are very supportive of our school and local community, offering an award to a Year 11 Nazareth student, for their leadership and community service during the year. Called the ‘Arthur Williams Junior Citizenship Award’, it recognises young people in our local community who strive for excellence – academically, socially and within their community. The award this year went to Ruan Pasuleti, and he attended a ceremony recently to receive the award.

JULIAN HILL COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Julian Hill Community Spirit and Leadership Award is offered by our local Federal Member of Parliament, Julian Hill, and acknowledges young people demonstrating community leadership both inside and outside the school community. The Awards recognise these important contributions and encourage more young people to get involved. This year, the Julian Hill Community Spirit and Leadership Award went to Cherine Kunfunda of Year 10.

Thank you

Lastly, a big thank you for the way in which you have partnered with us this year - it has been our privilege to work with our students and families.

If you are in need of support over the break, please seek this from the many fantastic organisations we have at our fingertips. Your GP is always a very good resource also, and can assist you in linking you with other local support services.
