Sullivan Robey (Year 12) selected with Pick 9 by the Essendon Bombers in the AFL Draft
Mazenod College congratulates Year 12 student Sullivan Robey, who has been selected with Pick 9 by the Essendon Bombers in the 2025 AFL Draft. He is a lifelong Bombers supporter, making this moment even more special.
Sullivan has built his game through discipline, hard work and a strong commitment to improvement. His draft selection reflects the way he approaches every part of College life.
He now holds the record for the highest draft pick by an AFL/VFL club for a Mazenod student, previously held by Heath Black in 1996, who was selected with pick 12 by the Fremantle Dockers.
Sullivan will join Old Collegian and former staff member David Regan at Essendon, who was recently appointed Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Bombers.
A well-earned moment for Sullivan and his family. We look forward to seeing where this next step takes him with the Bombers.
Mulgrave Country Club Elite Pathways Lawn Bowls Scholarship Programme
Mulgrave Country Club’s new Elite Pathways Lawn Bowls Scholarship Programme is now underway, with six Mazenod students joining the club’s Midweek Pennant rotation to develop their skills, gain competitive experience and learn from top-tier bowlers.
This week, Kobie, Marco and Jai were the first to take the green, representing Mulgrave CC in their Tuesday Pennant match at Heatherdale Bowls Club. The boys made a strong impression, both in their performance and in the way they carried themselves.
“They were great ambassadors for their school and club today.” — Graeme Spencer, Club Coach
The boys were warmly welcomed by players from both clubs and represented Mazenod with maturity and enthusiasm.
VM Senior Student, Rory Dal Ben, Building a Future.
Rory Dal Ben is a young man passionate about learning and developing his trade. At the end of Year 10, Rory chose the VCE Vocational Major (VM) Pathway and began a School-Based Apprenticeship and Training (SBAT) with a building company. Although he received excellent reviews, the company was unable to maintain his apprenticeship due to a lack of work.
Demonstrating great initiative and resilience, Rory contacted his Apprenticeship Network Provider and soon secured employment with Enl Developments.
Hayden Enlund, the company’s owner, was immediately impressed by Rory. His hard work, willingness to listen, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team have made him an integral member of the business.
Hayden’s philosophy is that you learn by doing, and Rory has been exposed to every aspect of construction, particularly framing. He is trusted to measure and cut timber, assist with the erection of trusses, and operate most of the tools required on-site.
Rory’s talent stems from a family deeply involved in various trades. His Nonno was a concreter, his father has framing experience, and his older brother, Lochie, is completing an electrical apprenticeship. Growing up in a family of tradies has instilled in Rory the work ethic and common sense needed to be an asset on any work site.
Mazenod College sincerely thanks Hayden Enlund and the team at Enl Developments for the mentoring and guidance they have provided Rory. The success of the VCE Vocational Major program relies on employers who generously offer young men real-world experience in the industries they aspire to join.
If you have the capacity to employ a VCE Vocational Major student, please contact Mr. Leigh Harris at lharris@mazenod.vic.edu.au or Ms. Athena Beshir at abeshir@mazenod.vic.edu.au, our Vocational Education Leaders. Work placement days for Year 11 VCE VM Unit 1/2 students are on Tuesdays, while Year 12 VCE VM Unit 3/4 students attend on Thursdays.
Victorian High Schools Mario Kart State Finals
Mazenod’s eSports program has reached a new milestone, with Ted Weston representing the College at the Victorian High Schools Mario Kart State Finals on 14–15 November as part of the FUSE Esports Festival on the Gold Coast.
Against more than 300 competitors statewide, Ted claimed an outstanding 2nd place, showing skill, focus and impressive resilience through several technical challenges on the day. His determination and calm under pressure were clear, and we are incredibly proud of his achievement.
Ted is a trailblazer for eSports at Mazenod, and this result sets a strong foundation for what’s ahead as the program continues to grow.
Congratulations, Ted. A brilliant effort and a proud moment for our College.
Zoos Victoria Showcase
As part of their science studies, our Year 7 students took on an exciting challenge: designing a campaign to support the survival of an endangered Australian species. Each homeroom selected its top project, and these students were invited by Zoos Victoria to participate in the Fighting Extinction Showcase. A special event highlighting student-led conservation efforts across the state.
Ten of our students joined peers from Grade 3 to Year 12 to share ideas, explore innovative technologies, and learn about creative fundraising initiatives making a real difference in local communities.
The presentations were truly inspiring and reminded us that the future of our native species is in good hands with the next generation.

2025 Annual Archdiocesan Celebration of Principalship
The recent 2025 Annual Archdiocesan Celebration of Principalship brought Catholic school leaders together in recognition of their service, vision and dedication to our communities.
We were proud to have the Mazenod Haydn Quartet contribute to the evening, performing live as guests arrived and adding a warm, elegant atmosphere to this important gathering.
