Foundation News

This week in InitiaLit, we have continued learning about the role of 'bossy e' in words that we read and spell. If you were able to attend our school assembly last week, you will have heard M3 perform a catchy 'bossy e' song! as this work continues beyond Foundation.

In Maths, we are revisiting and consolidating our knowledge of 'teen' numbers. We have been refining our number formation and using lots of 'hands on' resources to develop our understanding of place value.

In Writing, we are focusing on the 'ending' of our Jack and Jill narrative. Orally telling this story has really helped students to learn the narrative structure and prepare for writing. The children are really enjoying contributing their ideas and illustrations to create class anchor charts with the vocabulary they want to use in their writing.

Our Science unit is wrapping up with planning for an outdoor Teddy Bear Picnic. This will be combined with our Foundation Celebration Day on Monday, December 8. Look out for a letter coming home from your child about this picnic!

It is not long now until our Foundation Celebration Day on Monday, December 8! Here are some reminders about our special day:

  • Students start and finish school at the normal times.
  • Students need to wear full school uniform.
  • We have a morning excursion to the Creative Play and Arts Centre. Parent permission and payment are due by December 1. Students cannot attend without permission and payment.
  • We will have a Teddy Bear picnic at school. We will NOT be sharing food but you may wish to pack a special lunch in your child's lunchbox on the day.
  • Children are invited to bring one teddy bear on the day. Please clearly label with your child's name.
