The Maths Review for 2025!

There is so much to celebrate this year for our Maths curriculum.

In every classroom this year, students have been challenged regularly to solve problems without direct instruction on how to solve them. It is a way to get students to connect what they know and skills they have learnt with how to approach an unfamiliar task and find a solution.

Outside of the classroom we had our very successful inaugural Little LEAPers program.

Those Year Two participants really worked well (and hard) to solve some tricky maths together.

We have also had our Getting Ready in Numeracy (GRIN) program running for the second year. These students were identified as benefiting from some extra support to increase their confidence in themselves as mathematicians. From our preliminary assessment results, this has been very succcessful for them.

Victorian High Abilities Program has had a Maths focus with several participants from the senior year classrooms. This gave them opportunities to connect with other students from a number of schools via online learning.

Finally this term, the MRPS LEAP program has had 26 budding mathematicians meet twice a week to collaborate on some difficult maths challenges. These sessions generate a lot of great discussion between students about the 'right' and 'wrong' ways to find solutions - it would be more correct to say we are wanting to make sure that we justify our working out. It could be different to anyone else's but as long as we can explain and demonstrate that it works then it is valid.

Thanks to all parents and carers for your ongoing support for all our budding mathematicians!
