MCC Tech Classes – November 26

Our Community Action Team students have been helping local senior citizens with their technology questions each month, teaching practical solutions and building confidence with devices.

The final MCC Tech session for 2025 welcomed many seniors from the local area, eager to learn. While our students couldn’t attend this session due to other commitments, the program has been a wonderful opportunity for seniors and students alike to connect, share stories, and learn from one another.

A special thank you to Sharmaine Delgado and the Griffith City Library team for hosting the sessions and creating such a welcoming environment.

We are proud of our students’ dedication, respect, and willingness to give back to the community and look forward to continuing MCC Tech Classes in 2026!

Last Carevan of the Year – Wednesday 19 November

Carevan on Wednesday at Marian Catholic College

Wednesdays are always a special day for our Carevan team at Marian Catholic College. Each term, a dedicated group of staff and students volunteer their time to support the Carevan Foundation, an Australian not-for-profit organisation that provides food and care to people experiencing homelessness and vulnerability in rural and regional communities.

Marian has proudly supported Carevan for many years, and this important partnership continues to grow. Under the guidance of our wonderful TAS Department team; Maureen Shannon (TAS Coordinator), Lucia Dickie (VET Coordinator), Katherine Hannon (Hospitality Teacher), and our hardworking TAS Assistants Helen Panarello, Daniella Joeky, and Maryanne Bray together with our students, help prepare nutritious meals using our commercial kitchen facilities. This hands-on experience not only supports our community but also allows students to learn valuable skills in food preparation, hygiene, and safe kitchen practices.

Each week, our Carevan menu features freshly made fried rice, with our volunteers preparing enough meals to feed up to 250 people. These meals are then collected and distributed by Janice Sartor, the Griffith Carevan Coordinator, alongside a wonderful team of local volunteers at the new Griffith Community Centre on Olympic Street. By fostering a sense of belonging, compassion, and shared purpose, our students are contributing to a culture of care and community connection.

These experiences remind us that hardship can affect anyone, even people close to us, and that small acts of service can make a big difference.

As the year comes to a close, we extend our sincere thanks to Maureen and her exceptional team; to our regular staff volunteers, Lucia Dickie, Julie Cavallaro, Sarah O’Sullivan, Michelle Swan, Jonathan Morris, Trish Star, Veniana Caqusau, and to our new staff members, Sophie Bozic and Madeleine Ponferrada. A special thank you also to our Community Action students and the Year 9 classes of Maureen Shannon and Katherine Hannon for ensuring our kitchen is always left spotless.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this meaningful project. Together, we are helping to make a positive difference in our community.
