Wellbeing News

Relaxation, regulation, reflection, responsibility and rhythm were the order of the day during year 10’s recent self-awareness workshop “Ignite”. Students completed in a rotation of 4 different workshops facilitated by 4 local service providers with many stepping out of their comfort zones completing in a range of fun activities. Students also had the opportunity to broaden their knowledge regarding what services are available beyond school and have a different perspective on some of their behaviours, coping mechanisms or current beliefs.
The timing of the event was significant as all students are transitioning into another life period, and this may itself trigger some challenging thoughts and emotions. Across the cohort there are some students entering the workplace or alternate vocational training facilities. Others are entering employment on a fulltime basis, and others may be leaving to attend boarding school at another region. The remaining students are transitioning to our senior classes and with this comes new responsibilities, challenges and expectations.
A great day was had by all and the feedback has been both positive from the students, supervising staff as well as the facilitators of each group.
We are extremely grateful to the staff from LCN/Youth Links, headspace Griffith and Karralika for being part of their event and making it a positive experience for all.
As we come to the end of the term and indeed the year, our MCC Games Group took the opportunity to come together and celebrate Christmas. Lots of fun was had and we reflected on what has been a great year including relocating to the library and expanding the activities on offer. WE have been supported by some amazing staff volunteers who kindly give up their lunch break to enable the group to run. Without their contribution we could not have group every day. As a group we have made some suggestions for next year and will be looking at incorporating some additional activities and theme days.
The end of the term also allows for the students in year 10 to complete an expression of interest to volunteer to be part of the student led MCC 2026 Wellbeing Team. We had a great response for 19 enthusiastic young people and already they have made some great suggestions for the activities or promotions they would like to deliver in the new year. Exciting times ahead!!!
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all and I look forward to 2026.
