Lower Division Activities

Lower Division have completed our units for Mathematics and English for 2025, and are working through some final History and Science lessons before the end of our school year. We have also found time to enjoy some Christmas craft, where we have let our creativity shine.

Our class Christmas tree, where each student contributed a triangle that was then assembled to make the tree was a lot of fun and was taken for display at our presentation day yesterday.

PCYC ‘Power Force’ Program

Hannah Southwell from the Dragons WRNL team and staff from the Armidale PCYC visited Rocky River last week to speak to us about their journey and experiences and to lead PCYC Armidale’s ‘Power Force’ program to our students. Our oval provided a wonderful venue for this and the weather was just perfect for these activities.

The program offers a dynamic range of activities designed to engage students in positive ways, fostering personal growth and community connection whilst building confidence, resilience and leadership skills. Through teamwork challenges, leadership workshops, and physical activities, ‘POWER’ encourages young people to discover their strengths, set goals, and develop essential life skills.

We would like to thank Hannah Southwell and PCYC for their ongoing commitment to supporting our students and providing programs that inspire and empower. Participation in ‘POWER’ is a fantastic opportunity for our students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Wednesday, December 3 Uralla Excursion

Exploring the charming township of Uralla was a truly memorable experience for our students. Our day began at Uralla Central, where we made our way to McMaugh Gardens to spread some festive cheer by wishing the residents a Merry Christmas and presenting them with handmade cards created by our students. Following this heartwarming visit, we strolled down the main street to the town library for a delightful morning tea.

The activities at the Uralla Library were a highlight of the day. Students were invited to write letters to Santa, sparking their creativity and holiday spirit. We were also privileged to enjoy a traditional folktale performance, complete with props and costume, giving students a captivating glimpse into the art of storytelling as it was once shared. The library spaces offered a wealth of fun and learning, from reading and colouring to games and Lego building. Our visit concluded with an exciting scavenger hunt, making for an engaging and joyful experience.

A huge thank you to the Uralla Library and Alyce for their generous time and wonderful organisation, making our visit so special. We look forward to many more community outings that enrich our students’ learning beyond the classroom!

Making a Splash: Completing Our Swim School Sporting Unit

We are excited to announce the successful completion of our Swim School sporting unit! Learning to swim is an essential life skill that promotes safety, confidence, and healthy living. Throughout the unit, students have developed strong swimming techniques, water awareness, and endurance, all of which are vital for staying safe and enjoying aquatic activities.

We can’t wait to celebrate all the hard work and new skills with our upcoming end-of-year pool party—an opportunity for students to show off their progress, have fun, and share their achievements with friends and family. Swimming is not only a valuable skill but also a fantastic way to stay active and healthy.

A special thank you to James Harwood and his team from High Country Swimming for delivering comprehensive and engaging lessons that helped our students build their skills and confidence in the water. Congratulations to all our swimmers for their dedication and enthusiasm in the pool!

Cross Country Training

Believe it or not, cross country season is just around the corner! To help our students prepare and build their endurance, we’re starting the training gradually by focusing on walking sessions to develop muscle memory and get everyone moving.

These gentle beginnings are a great way to ease back into fitness, improve stamina, and set the foundation for more intense running workouts as the event approaches. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for students to enjoy the fresh air and the great outdoors while building their confidence for the big day in 2026!
