Class 6 News

PAMELA KEIL

Class Six blazed through our final term as primary students with three major projects.  Per usual, the students came through with excellent work, though sometimes at the last minute!

Roman Markets

Class 6 decided to make this event huge!  They were so ambitious, and it involved so much planning.  They formed teams for each market stall, and each team described their plan in a proposal to the faculty, with signatures of support  by the rest of the class.  They decided on sale prices, game rules, prize categories, estimated the quantity of supplies they would need, wrote shopping lists, and drew publicity posters.

Market Day was an astounding success.  Despite very gusty winds making set up “interesting” to say the least, and 40-degree temperatures throughout the day, the market stalls were inundated with customers from the entire school!  Class 8/9 students, parents and teachers assisted as needed to help manage the unexpected demand.  We even had a live horse, and a trebuchet that actually knocked down fortress walls!  The lemonade, icy poles and pancakes were so popular they sold out and needed more ingredients.  Overall, the class cleared a profit of over a thousand dollars that went toward our End-of-Primary Celebration Dinner.  After packing down in the heat, the class all agreed it was a wild success and they would never ever do this again!

Rome Projects

This year our final projects focused on exploring Ancient Roman innovations in architecture, science, military technology, and politics.  Each student chose a topic and explored it at home. From their research, they created a 3D models and  posters they used to illustrate key features of that innovation in their formal presentations to the class. They then created an open gallery of their projects and invited the whole school to see and learn!

The students excelled in the background research they described in their posters, and in the very realistic and often miniscule detail of their project constructions.  Many of them had moving parts, flowing water, and used actual wood, stone, tile, concrete and other innovative Roman materials and building methods.  A very impressive display!

End-of-Primary Celebration Dinner

As Class 6 families can attest, Monday night was a lovely evening!  The students decided they wanted a more formal event, so we discussed the purpose, program and dress code.  They spent the day in class helping each other perfect their speeches.  They also designed place cards for family members and teachers, which included personal messages of heartfelt appreciation.

On the evening, all their preparation resulted in a beautiful show of the self-confidence they developed through primary school, and their speeches showed their understanding of the many people and group activities who helped them grow into such poised young people.

We also very much appreciate the professionalism and flexibility of Lisa from Reality Bites Catering, as our ever-growing attendance list ended up filling the 80-person capacity of the Madigan’s Function Room at Desert Park. We loved the special guest appearance of Bruce the Golden Bandicoot!

Have an amazing Holiday Class Six! You earned it!

Pam
