On Tuesday, 25th of November, a group of dedicated students took part in the FareShare Schools in the Kitchen program - an initiative that raises awareness about food insecurity while giving young people the chance to make a real contribution to their community.

During the hands-on session, students worked alongside FareShare chefs, learning about food waste and food rescue as they chopped, sliced, measured, assembled, and packed nutritious meals. They also developed valuable skills in teamwork, communication, and kitchen safety.

Their hard work had an impressive impact. Students:

  • Assembled 478 salmon curry with rice meals
  • Prepared vegetables for 1,800 meals, including spring onions, silverbeet, and mushrooms
  • Helped clean and reset the kitchen for the next group

Their contribution made a meaningful difference, and we are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school. Experiences like this highlight the importance of compassion, service, and community - and we hope the day inspires students to continue looking for ways to support others.
