Supporting Children’s Wellbeing Over the School Holidays
School holidays are a valuable time for families to rest, reconnect and enjoy time together. They can also be a time when routines change, which can sometimes impact children’s wellbeing. To support families over the break, we would like to share a range of free online and local resources that parents and carers can access to help support children’s emotional, social and physical wellbeing.
Free Online Wellbeing Resources
Smiling Mind Offers free mindfulness activities designed specifically for children. Short, guided exercises can help children manage big feelings, improve focus and relax. Website: smilingmind.com.au

Local and Community-Based Supports
Local Libraries Many libraries offer free holiday programs, craft sessions, reading challenges and quiet spaces for children to enjoy books and creative activities.
Parks, Playgrounds and Nature Reserves Spending time outdoors supports physical health, reduces stress and encourages positive mood. Simple activities like bike riding, walking, or nature play can have a big impact on wellbeing.
Board games or Puzzles
Old fashioned board games and puzzles create a time for family members to come together and interact without screens. Board games and puzzles also create opportunities to practice turn taking and being a good sport.
Wellbeing is supported through balance — rest, play, connection and routine. Encouraging children to talk about their feelings, spend time outdoors, limit screen time and stay socially connected can make a positive difference. Most importantly, enjoying time together as a family helps children feel safe, supported and happy.
