Art

Year 7 Art
Students in 7E, F, G, H, and I, explored many different materials and techniques this semester. They studied the significant Australian artwork Ngurrara 2, before embarking on their own creative journey making an aerial perspective painting of a place that holds special meaning to them. Students then experienced the more technical side of the visual arts, creating a one-point perspective city landscape, using rulers and converging lines. Some students even created a two-point, or four-point perspective work, which was very impressive. Our next unit involved using skills learnt at the start of the semester, by creating a paper collage, focusing on complimentary colour schemes, line, and pattern. They also had a go at exploring clay, practising the pinch pot method to create a creature of their choice, whilst no glazing is completed in year 7, they used what is called a ‘cold finish’ technique, by painting them with acrylic paint (please note the year 7 ceramic work is not food/drink friendly).
Year 8 Art
Students in 8E, F, G and H explored ceramics, technical drawing and design, and digital arts. In ceramics, students studied the Hermannsburg Potters, before creating their own ceramic vessel with a lid using pinch, coil and slab techniques, and then finishing their work with glaze. They then delved into the world of Marvel and DC Characters, using isometric and orthographic projection techniques to draw and design a 3D letter based on a character of their choice. Lastly, the students learnt the fundamental tools of the online photo editing program Photopea. By working through step-by-step tutorials, students were then able to then create their own digital artwork.
Art club
Art club has been a huge success this year. Every Wednesday lunch the art rooms would be a buzz of activity and happiness. It has been wonderful to see students flourish in their own creativity, share their interests, and ideas about art and the world in a relaxing environment.
Over the holidays
If you are looking for something to do over the holidays, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) have free permanent displays on and has a huge collection of very significant artworks from all over the world. It also caters well for children of all ages and has many engaging activities, even for the little ones, which are all free!
