Year 7 Careers Expo
In Term 4, our Year 7 students successfully completed their career exploration project, as part of the school’s Year 7 Student Success Program. This project was specifically designed to provide students with a structured and practical introduction to career pathways, blending essential academic skills with real-world relevance.
The unit began by requiring each student to select a career they were interested in. They then undertook a detailed, structured research process. Going beyond simple job descriptions, students were tasked with investigating the necessary qualifications, the future outlook of the role, and its impact in the local and wider community. This phase encouraged students to think critically about how their future work might contribute to society.
This detailed investigation culminated in the Careers Expo, an event delivered across two sessions:
Presentation Session: In the presentation session to acting as subject matter experts. They stood by their high-quality, professional visual career profiles and presented their research to visiting peers. Students would go through their presentations with their peers and answer key questions about their chosen career.
Exploration Session: In the exploration session, students actively moved around the different classroom presentations created by their peers. This peer-led exploration allowed them to discover a wide variety of professions they may not have previously considered, broadening their understanding of the employment landscape.
The level of rigour, organisation, and confident presentation displayed by the Year 7 cohort was commendable. This project successfully integrated independent research and public speaking practice, providing students with valuable skills that will underpin their academic progression and future decision-making within the school community.
