International Student Update

Thursday 1st Au 2024

Last Friday (26/07), the First Secretary, Kellen Deiye from Nauru visited our college. The purpose is  they are considering awarding scholarships to Nauruan international students to study in Victorian government schools from Years 9 to 12 from Term 1, 2026. We are greatly honoured to be chosen to participate in this program.  Our College Assistant Principal conducted a school tour and  Ms Deiye had a chance to communicate with our students from Y12 EAL class. Ms Deiye was very interested in our STEM, Beach Safety Program and lunch activities. She was also very impressed by our caring and experienced homestay hosts.

ILC Students-Mordialloc Experience Excursion

As part of the Orientation program, our ILC students participated in the Mordialloc Experience Excursion organised by Ms Podesser. This is a great opportunity to let our new students familiarize with our local community. We would like to share some pictures reflecting how they feel about  Mordialloc.

A special letter from Ivy

We are so pleased to see that most of our students have settled down well in their mainstream classes  after the transition from ILC.

We have received a beautiful letter from Ivy Wang for her gratitude to Ms S Mitchell, her Humanity class teacher:

"Last Friday I took a Humanities class. We were divided into several groups to do some work. Our 4 Chinese girls are in the same group. I want to talk and be familiar to my classmates, so I asked the teacher Ms. Mitchell if we can be mixed into these local students. After class, Ms. Mitchell told me that she thought putting us together would be easier for us to talk and discuss. And the worksheets that we had were easier than the local students because we’ve just been in the mainstream for 3 weeks. She explained to me patiently. And I told her that we only spoke Chinese when we sat together and I wanted to talk to other classmates to improve my English. Ms. Mitchell really respects me. She said that next Monday we will still have group work, that time she will mix us. And I just asked if she could put Qin and me together. Qin wants to improve her English as well. Ms. Mitchell said she would never put me alone. I felt really warm and happy that time. Because in my country, the teacher will never put you together with your friends. Sometimes even deliberately separating you from your friends.

Ms. Mitchell really respects students’ ideas, I’m grateful to her."
