Acting Principal Update
Thursday 1 August 2024
Dear Families, Students and Community Members,
This week, I had my first meeting with our School Reviewer Carol Every, and our new Acting SEIL David Caughey to discuss our School Review process, and the set up of our first School Review day which falls in Week 4.
School review is a key element of the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes 2.0 (FISO 2.0) improvement cycle, and all DET schools undertake a School Review every four years to inform the directions of the school’s four-year School Strategic Plan (SSP).
As well as a review of our previous four years of data, and a compliance check against curriculum and Student Learning Minimum Standards, an important part of the review is the fieldwork facilitated by the independent school reviewer, and a panel comprising myself, the Leadership Team, School Council President Jason Allen, the Acting SEIL, and challenge partners (DET principals). Next week, the panel will do learning walks around the school, speak with Leadership about school data, and talk with students about their feelings around Teaching and Learning at Mordialloc College.
Some of you completed Parent Voice surveys in Term 2 (Stop, Start, Continue), and that data will be used later on in the term during the second half of the field work sessions.
It is a huge job that rightly includes feedback from all demographics within our community; we then use all of the information generated to create aspirational and challenging targets for the next four years at Mordialloc College.
We look forward to sharing those reflections with you all, and how they feed into our next four-year School Strategic Plan in Term 4.

Grease - The Musical: Trivia Night
This was a great evening, an absolute sell out, and full of so many members of our school community having a great time together. The evening was so very well planned with games, raffles and a wide variety of Trivia topics.
Some of the raffle prizes were amazing, and a fabulous reflection of how generous our wider school community is. A massive round of applause must go out to the amazing amount of work put in by Mara Sears, Rob Bishop and Pauline. We are grateful to them both for their wonderful effort. I wasn’t on the winning table; maybe next time!
We really are down to our last batch of Grease - The Musical tickets, please buy quickly so that you can avoid disappointment!
NAPLAN
Parents and carers of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 who took this year’s NAPLAN assessment in March will receive an individual student report (ISR) of their child’s results from their school from the start of Term 3. We have already started to post them out to our families as of this week.
Whilst we have not received information that allows us to compare our results with like schools and state, I can share that we have received certificates for some amazing Year 9 results.
Congratulations to the Year 9 students for receiving a NAPLAN Certificate of Achievement award from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. These were presented to students in our Year 9 assembly this week.
Along with other school assessment reports, parents and carers can use the NAPLAN individual student reports to discuss their child’s progress with their teacher.

Parent Opinion Survey
All families were contacted last week with the opportunity to complete the yearly Parent Opinion Survey.
Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students.
The survey will be conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. It can be completed on any internet enabled device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.
Please have a look in your email for the link; it is always great to hear your feedback!
I really do hope you have a great fortnight.
