Year 10 News

It has been a busy start to the term, with Year 10 students participating in career focused programs to assist them in their future pathways. Thirty students across Years 10 and 11 were actively involved with the NSW Health Virtual Career Fair last Thursday, where they learnt about diverse roles within the organisation and learnt about current casual job opportunities as well.
Students will once again have the opportunity to participate in Work Placement during Week 5, where they are able to experience hands-on activities in their chosen fields. Information about career programs and opportunities will be emailed out by either myself and/or Mss Watkins, so please make sure to check emails regarding events and opportunities.
Year 10 students have now finalised the Year 11 Elective process, which saw students select their fields of study, here at SJCC, for 2025. If you have any concerns or requests to change, these can be accommodated if there is room in the class. Students will have the option to do so in the first three weeks of Term 1, 2025.
It was also incredibly lovely to see some of our Year 10 students dancing alongside younger peers from our feeder Primary Schools, in our NAIDOC Week celebrations in Week 1. Thank you for your guidance of our little ones and making it a memorable day, celebrating all that is wonderful about First Nations culture.
Year 10 will also have their second Wellbeing Day together, alongside Years 7 to 9, on Thursday 22 August. This day is designed to strengthen students' relationships with one another and will continue to build upon their capacity to work together. This term, students will participate in a range of fun events throughout the day, before heading off to sport during Periods 5 and 6.
Formally Yours – In the Upper Hunter, is a community initiative where local people donate high quality, and in most cases, new, formal outfits to support young people attending their Year 6, 10 or 12 Formal. They are looking for donations to support our youth, so please, if you have anything of this nature, please connect with them using the information on the flyer.
Just a reminder that Illness/Misadventure forms should be completed at least 3 days prior to an assessment task being due if you will be absent on the date of submission. These forms are also required if students are absent the day before an assessment task is due. This is a compulsory NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirement for all Year 10, 11 and 12 students. For further information please contact the school via phone or email.
