Meet our Principal Team
Tom Cain
Principal
I started at Port Melbourne last year first as Acting, and then as substantive Principal. Before that, I was an Assistant Principal at secondary schools on the Mornington Peninsula. I love working in a primary school now and especially love the warm, engaged and positive community we have at Port Melbourne.
One of the things I love about my job is chatting with kids and teachers to learn more about how we can continue to improve our school. I'm passionate about making Port the best primary school it can be - a place where everyone feels valued, challenged and supported.
Away from school, I like spending time with my two children and riding bikes.

Katie Klajnblat
Assistant Principal (Teaching & Learning)
I've been at Port Melbourne PS for the last 6 years as Assistant Principal. I've enjoyed watching the school grow and change over that time and take pride in what I've helped to achieve.
I've recently returned from a trip to Canada where I did lots of hiking in the Rocky Mountains. I was even lucky enough to see a bear! Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening and baking sweet treats for everyone.
- What I'm reading right now: Nothing right now, but I love a good podcast.
- Favourite sport: Running
- My favourite subject (when I was at school): Writing
- How long I've taught at PMPS: 6 years.
Kristen Cutting
Assistant Principal (Acting) (Wellbeing) and 2B Classroom Teacher
I’ve been teaching for 29 years and moved to Melbourne from South Australia about 18 years ago with my husband Mike and daughter Mackenzie. I am Early Childhood trained and love teaching in the Early Years.
I teach 3 days in 2B and on the other days I work as Acting Assistant Principal. As part of my AP role, I manage Student Wellbeing which is a particular passion of mine. I plan our Berry Street Educational Model (BSEM) Ready to Learn program and oversee both the Student Wellbeing Team and The Wellbeing Dog Program.
As a Port Melbourne local, I love my short commute to work and I am very lucky to live and work in this wonderful community. You might also know me as our wellbeing dog, Alfie's mum and see us walking around together in the yard or in the parks or on the beach. I am a great Carlton fan and also love travelling and hanging out with friends and family.

- Favourite sport: Basketball
- My favourite subject (when I was at school): Sport and Art

Assistant Principal (Acting) (Inclusion & Engagement)
I started at Port Melbourne PS to introduce the French Program. I have had many reincarnations since teaching classroom, STEM, Inclusion and now as Acting Assistant Principal. I have seen so many changes over the years, but I love working here as I am proud to be at Port.
I am responsible for the engagement and inclusion portfolio and work closely with teachers and families to support all students, particularly those that require extra adjustments for learning.
Outside of school I am busy with my two little kids and their social lives. I love cooking and entertaining friends and have just recently decided to add a veggie garden to our family!
